Dr. Joseph Bernard Petelin, MD

I found Dr. Petelin & his staff to be very thorough, professional & efficient. Before my surgery, I was given step-by-step information as to what to expect from my surgery and my recovery period. Dr. Petelin's office runs very efficiently. This doctor & his staff are a well oiled machine.

I had a laproscopic colon surgery in 2010. He also placed and removed a port for chemo therapy early 2011. I was very pleased and didn't have any complications. The hospital nursing staff told me that if they were having surgery, he would be the doctor. His bedside manner is wonderful and my daughter says she compares all other physicians to him as her standard.

I had a hiatal hernia repair and then a strengthening of the esophagus. I could not have had a better surgeon! I had been dreading it because of a previous surgery when I nearly died from the anesthesia. Dr. Petelin understood and told me it would not happen with his staff. He consulted with several gastroenterologists to be certain it was the correct surgery. He and his staff thoroughly prepared me. The surgery took about 2 1/2 hours. I went home the next day! I had severe pain for 2 days and then NO pain from the 5 very small incisions. No problem at all healing and it has now been seven weeks. If I have to have surgery again I will do all I have to to have Dr Petelin as the surgeon. I now know he has a wonderful reputation and wonder why he doesn't have more responses on this site. We are fortunate in KC to have such an excellent surgeon.

Most memorable is that I am left with life long health problems as the result of the surgery he performed that required a second surgery. My health will never be the same. Very arrogant. Do not recommend.

The office staff could barely talk on the phone. I was referred by a pain doctor due to a groin lump. It took me a week to get the necessary tests and information before he would consider setting an appointment. After failure to call me back in a week, I was referred by his office to another surgeon-this was after putting me on hold while my case was being reviewed.
