Dr. Joy Lynn Collins, MD

She loved my daughter who was ~7-8yrs old at that time. Came in via ambulance from NJ 3 am. Dr Collins assessed the situation with quick efficient professional judgement and sent her immediately for surgery. She was very polite but urgent to have her in surgery ( which she lead) because my daughter had a life threatening volulous. My daughter was doing quite well but then other issues arisen but many MD’s were stumped with in GI department in CHOP. Her stay was lengthy (~7 months in and out thereafter). Many clinical room decisions which were daunting and scary. Many clinical tests, Bl, genetic testing.. Dr Joy Collins was ALWAYS there even with a full day of surgery she came in to check in with “her baby“ ( I was choked up). My daughter had AT LEAST 5 surgeries and recuperation. Even though my daughter was the brave soul ( internally she was frightened). Dr Collins was always there with reassurance and had a gift of soothing my scared child and us. What amazed me during her… surgeries, Dr Joy Collins came out of mid-long surgeries (with my daughter stable on the table)to draw us a schematic of my daughters alternate in surgery because Dr Joy found other internal issues she had to get around.She was a big part of the GI team who were all involved deeply with my daughter’s case. A lot of time went by but finally discovered this was NOT an anatomical problem but was mostly her physiology. Dr Joy was there supportive kind and extremely compassionate with my daughter. She was a very rare case that CHOP GI was discovering and finding her diagnosis. Now my daughter is a well healthy 16yr old teen in sports ( field hockey and lacrosse), boyfriend and many friends living the teen norm. She is thriving well! Even with her colostomy bag that she learned quickly ,after her first emergency , is essential to her life she coped with it quite well with all of CHOP help and support. I DO NOT KNOW the words to say more than how grateful and compassionate Dr Collins was. I bet she remembers her unique case in CHOP. We miss her very much here once she left Philly for Virginia, bittersweet. We wish Dr Collins the best in Virginia, because Dr Collins deserves the best. Bless her!!!

Dr. Collins performed an emergency appendectomy on my 10 year old daughter and was fantastic. She put us all at ease and explained everything very clearly. The surgery went perfectly and recovery was quick. I highly recommend her.
