Dr. Julie Kolzet is a licensed clinical psychologist, supervisor, mentor, and specialist in behavioral sleep medicine who also engages in consultancy work. She has approximately 21 years of experience learning, practicing, and teaching in New York City. Dr. Kolzet received a MA in Counseling and Guidance for College and Community Agencies from NYU and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a Health Emphasis from Yeshiva University, Ferkauf Graduate School, Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
In 2013, Dr. Kolzet established psychotherapy and behavioral health practice that provides cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and supportive psychotherapy to individuals and groups on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. She provides evidence-based treatment options for a variety of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, low mood, and body image concerns. She utilizes her expertise to help her patients build motivation, overcome challenges, adhere to long-term health-promoting behaviors, and thrive in daily life. Dr. Kolzet also incorporates evidence-based tools and technologies to track treatment progress and therapy gains.
Dr. Kolzet’s clinical work is enhanced by her specialized training in behavioral treatments for insomnia and other sleep disorders. She has expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and has trained on the fellowship level at the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, she is pursuing her board certification in Behavioral Sleep Medicine. Collectively, this advanced training enables Dr. Kolzet to effectively change how patients perceive sleep as well as alter the existing symptoms of their sleep disorders.
Dr. Kolzet has scaled her work to meet patients’ needs by working to help advance the field of mental and behavioral health on the whole. This work has become progressively imperative during the global COVID-19 pandemic as increasing numbers of patients search for virtual mental health care. In particular, Dr. Kolzet has ensured that she stays current on trends in the following categories: patients, clinicians, health care systems, and innovation/discovery, especially as it pertains to co-existing issues. Dr. Kolzet has and continues to share this understanding with the public. In particular, she has done so in her work with Psycom and Psycompro, where she produces original thought leadership pieces on the evolving landscape of mental health care, including the incorporation of wearable technologies, personal devices, and physiological data. Dr. Kolzet has also worked to help advance and modernize mental health care by consulting for early-stage digital mental and behavioral health technology companies. In these roles, Dr. Kolzet has served as a subject matter expert on topics such as evidence-based clinical treatments and the feasibility and incorporation of novel technologies and practices.
