Have you seen Dr. Kenneth Phillips?

Saw a review about Dr. Phillips on this site that said, "He writes prescriptions to drug addicts.."Well, if you mean he writes prescriptions for his chronic pain patients, then that is true. However, we are not drug addicts and Dr. Phillips is one of THE MOST meticulous and law-abiding doctors out there with regard to writing narcotic pain med prescriptions and ensuring his patients follow the rules laid out by state and federal guidelines. For example, Dr. Phillips WILL NOT write prescriptions for any schedule II drug (for example Oxycontin) because in his words "If my patients require pain management at that level, then I will refer them to a pain management specialist since in the patient's best interest, they would benefit from having a specialist in that area see them and avail them of the latest options for their care." In addition, Dr. Phillips requires all his pain patients to have face to face visits, verifiable medical records that show a need for pain management including narcotic meds, and all must sign a legally binding 20 page document that outlines the state and federal rules as well as his office's expectations as to how you will use this medication. As one of his pain patients, I can attest to the fact that Dr. Phillips regularly checks with the pharmacy to ensure you are filling your medication properly and if you are even the least bit suspected of trying any funny business, he will drop those patients. As to his other traits, he is the only doctor I have seen in the recent history that will spend as much time with you as you require no matter how many patients are waiting. The current patient is his priority. He will answer your questions about meds, diagnosis and treatment plans and you get the feeling this doctor really cares about you. His staff on the other hand seem to be a bit rude but I am not sure if that's the case or if they are just overworked. But in most cases, they really are just paper pushers, once they get you in, take vitals and put you in a room - Dr. Phillips does the rest so my interaction with the staff is always cordial but limited. His beside manner is professional, he does not joke around but he is VERY talkative. To a fault too. He is very knowledgable about his field and sometimes you may find yourself trying to get a word in and he is rambling on about medication side effects or the latest research on your illness, but the best thing to do is to just jump in and cut him off and he will listen to your intently and very directly respond to your questions and comments. He is usually reachable by phone directly during the day if necessary and follows-up regularly. Again, as a pain patient, he probably follows up with me and others like me more frequently due to the legal requirement placed on him by the state and DEA but I think it is a good thing and it helps for me to be able to bring up questions and comments about my care that I may have forgotten in the exam room. So, again, Dr. Phillips is an excellent physician and I took offense to the other review that insinuates he is some kind of narcotics pusher or this is a pill mill. It is not. He is a reputable doctor, making reputable diagnosis and reputable treatments within the confines of the law. He listens to his patients and spends quality time during each visit to truly understand their needs. Wish there were more doctors like him.
