Wasted my time and billed my insurance

Dr. Chan is the most unprofessional physician I have ever met. He spent most of my appointment telling me how he can provide only the most basic standard of care using conventional medicine if he takes your insurance, explaining how this is all because of Obama Care. He gave me at least five different examples of the difference between using insurance vs. Regenesis (his expensive medical membership club), such as the difference between cheap fast food and fine dining. I asked him and members of his staff how much the membership cost, but was not able to get a straight answer during my office visit. I felt like my time was completely wasted, it was used for him to give me a long and detailed sales pitch. I called his office later requesting that my insurance not be billed since I did not receive any service. Today I got my insurance statement. Chan's office billed my insurance and it was paid from my HRA. It is not that easy to find an excellent holistic minded doctor who takes insurance, but they do exist. However, Kevin Chan is not one of them. His tactic is the bait and switch, by implying that he does take insurance, he can get people into the office to hear his pitch. Don't fall for it. I wish I had read the other reviews on this site before making an appointment with him.

ugh

dude (and please note, i do not use the term "doctor" to describe Chan). dude spent the whole time talking about his uncompromising medical ethics, then tried to cheap out on lab work. it's the only time in my life i've walked out of doctor's office half-way through a visit. and when i told his staff to shred my personal info - they refused - and dude billed me for the visit anyway. ugh.

not happy

I loved the staff at this office until I met Dr Chan. I have a thyroid problem that is now severe. This all could have been avoided had the man referred me to an endocrinologist. But no the man chose to say " you have a thyroid problem. I could help you but my treatment is not conventional medicine. Your insurance co won't pay for it and you can't afford it on disability.". Yet didn't refer me to someone who could. He also told me that had someone treated me sooner I wouldn't have lost half my internal organs. And still did nothing to help me. This was 3 yrs ago. I am writing this a little late. Even though I left him shortly after I am just now learning the true aftermath of his doctoring style. I do believe in what he can offer. All of my doctors that I have now. All practice eastern and Western medicine combined. I am just dumbfounded at this type of practice. He should've referred me out. His selfishness has cost me more money in the long run trying to get better. I believe in holistic medicine but please research your provider and make sure they are a fit for you. Doctors do consults with us to make sure they want to take a patient. But no consults with a doctor to make sure that doctor is good for them. I started interviewing my doctors. Yes they thought I was crazy. but now I have good doctors.

One Star

I had been seeing Dr. Chan for about a year or more when I got a letter saying that he was going to a subscription plan that would cost $1200./yr. but would provide better care. I liked Dr. Chan, but I wondered what level of service I'd been getting, so I opted out. About two years later, I was looking for a doctor, and my healthcare listed DR. Chan, so I called and asked if he was accepting patients on a regular basis again. I was told that the letter I had received had mistakenly given the impression that only subscription patients would be accepted after a certain date.I complained about what a nuisance that letter had caused me, and I asked why a follow-up letter wasn't sent when the error was realized. I got no answer, but I made an appointment anyway since, as I said, I'd liked Dr. Chan.Unfortunately, he wasn't available for immediate appointment, and I needed blood pressure medication rather soon, so I saw a nurse practitioner instead who prescribed me a new medication, since I'd complained that the blood pressure medication I'd been taking had undesirable side effects. After taking the new medication for several weeks, I called the office because it was giving me long and rather strong headaches. I was told I'd have to come back in. Why? I asked for Dr. Chan to call me, and the next day, an office employee called to say that Dr. Chan said I'd have to come in. WHY?But I made an appointment anyway since I had another problem I needed to see the doctor about, and I was told that Dr. Chan usually runs late. I couldn't get an answer when I asked how late.A day or two later, I realized that we would not be in town that day, so I called to reschedule - the next available time was about ten days later. OK, but I said that I was concerned about my blood pressure though because I'd be going a long time without any medicine.I was told I should keep taking what I had because if my blood pressure spiked, I could possibly have a stroke. I informed the woman that I couldn't take what I had. The side effects were too difficult to deal with. She then informed me that they couldn't be responsible if I didn't heed their advice, and I told her that if something happened because I had to go without medication, that I would indeed hold them responsible. Then the unimaginable happened, and I swear this is true, and bear in mind that I had an appointment scheduled. She told me that I had to come in because if I didn't, they couldn't make any money. You read that right. I, of course protested, and she tried to liken it to any other business - that if they gave free services, they couldn't stay in business.I ended the conversation and added that I would be writing about this on every service on the Net that rated doctors.Well, I waited six weeks just to see if I'd still feel outraged, and I do. The irony is that not only did Dr. Chan put me in some jeopardy for a buck, but he's lost all the additional bucks he would have gotten from me if he'd acted like a proper doctor and put his patient first.
