Dr K. McKay delivered my first baby when I was 19. I was naive. I was on Medicaid & she’d say it, as she was always bringing in students. Every visit. I didn’t know that you don’t need vaginal exams every prenatal appointment but she taught a new student every visit. I started to feel violated & refused students. It visibly annoyed her. I had a birthing plan stating I didn’t want any students.I didn’t see Dr. McKay until it was time for me to start pushing. She came in with many students. I said I didn’t want students 2x & was ignored. My baby was getting close to crowning & she said something like “Oh ya, episiotomy!” & didn’t ask my permission, didn’t numb the area, and sliced me. It was horrific. I screamed. She tried hushing me. It was cold. & So was her not allowing my baby to go on my chest but over out of sight for students to learn as she taught another male student how to sew me up. He was sweating & saying he couldn’t & she was condescending to him & me. I’ll never forget.

Dr. McKay may be a good doctor, but she didn't treat me very well. She was not my doctor, nor performed my c-section. I will never forget--I was two days post partum and feeling pretty terrible (I had a c-section after two days of labor). She was beautiful, wearing a really nice coat and I complemented her on it. She responded, but to the nurse. She never made eye contact with me and the way she touched me when checking my incision and my blood loss make me pretty sure she didn't want to touch me at all (I am quite overweight). She didn't say a word to me, just looked at and talked to the nurse. I cried after she left because I felt so crappy about that. I blamed myself for being overweight and disgusting, but I finished law school and work on medical malpractice cases and I realize what she did was WRONG. Its treatment like that that causes people to not go to the doctor when they need to. So, not impressed by her bedside manner. I would get up and walk out if I deliver my child at… Avera again. Now I don't want her touching me.

Dr. Mckay is undoubtedly the only ob for my next 2 planned deliveries. She's a real professional!!

This is a Doctor I trust with my life and my babies life. She is great!
