Dr. Laura J. Bianconi, MD

By far the worse provider I have ever encountered. After waiting months for my daughter to be seen by Dr. Bianconi, she refused care for my daughter due to not fully up to date on her vaccinations. We were scheduled to establish care due to recently moving within the McHenry area. Unfortunately, my daughter was ill that day with a high fever, sore throat, and rash. After convincing Dr. Bianconi to assess and treat my daughter that day, it turned out she was strep positive. The majority of the appointment time was drilling my 6-year-old on the importance of safety, wear a helmet, don’t talk to strangers, do you know your address, don’t let others look at your private parts, etc. After she told my daughter, no one should look at your private parts, she then pulled down her underwear to assess her private parts. Although, I am aware this a normal routine exam for a new pediatric patient, out of respect for my daughters she should have asked or explained why she needed to look at her… private parts. While she concluded the appointment and was ready to walk out of the exam room, I had to remind Dr. Bianconi to please assess her rash, she stated, “sorry I forgot.” With knowing my daughter has been resistant to amoxicillin, I informed Dr. Bianconi amoxicillin is not an option for treating her strep. Her response was, “strep is not resistant to amoxicillin and it should be fine.” We went home frustrated with an ill child and waiting patiently for the antibiotic to be sent to the pharmacy. After a few hours, I decided to call the pharmacy and they stated a prescription was never sent by the doctor. At that time, the office was now closed. Knowing my daughter needed her antibiotic ASAP with a high fever and unable to swallow. I paged the on-call provider, and I was charged an after-hour fee for requesting my daughters’ antibiotics be sent to the pharmacy since Dr. Bianconi forgot. We completed the full course of amoxicillin with hopes my daughter’s past resistance to amoxicillin would not occur and her strep would be treated. A few days after completion of antibiotics, she presented with a high fever and sore throat again. I called the office to request another antibiotic and was told Dr. Bianconi is out on leave this week and my daughter would have to be seen by another provider and swabbed for strep again!! If she were already positive for strep and was treated with an antibiotic, she is resistant too, why would I bring her in to be seen again and swabbed an additional time?! The nurse then told me they are closing in 20 minutes, and she will ask another provider to review notes and return my call the next day but will not send a different antibiotic without being seen. I was completely shocked an office and provider would be so inconsiderate and disrespectful. Parents beware, do not bring your child to be seen by Dr. Bianconi.

My daughter would start to cry when she just saw the woman. She was terrible to my daughter and even rolled her eyes when she was crying and being fussy at a year old. Two different occasions I had to go back after a week and saw other doctors in the practice who fixed the problems right away. She would hardly look at my daughter. When I switched pediatrician she diagnosed my daughter with hypotonia and sent us to a neurologist, refered my daughter for orthotics because my daughter was not walking and could hardly stand at 14 months old, could not sit without support, was not talking, had bad constipation issues and Bianconi NEVER said a word. Being a new mom I put trust in the doctor to know a little bit about development delays more then me. Every time I expressed concern she would just blow it off- Thank god I switched docotrs! I would never let this woman near my daughter again!

Dr. Bianconi is very prompt, courteous, willing to listen, and caring towards my children. She follows up on medical issues promptly. Dr. Bianconi is an excellent practitioner that I would recommend without reservation.

Dr. B is no longer our doctor, but I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone. We saw her in Antioch IL and were incredibly sad when she moved to McHenry, as it's just too far for us to travel with a sick child. She was always kind, caring, knowledgable, ready and willing to spend the time to make you comfortable and answer every question you might have. She really connected with my kids as well. We miss you Dr. B! You set the bar high and I have yet (4 years) to find a pediatrician I like as much.
