Dr. Laura Sue Mcmahon, MD

Dr. McMahon was rude and condescending every time I met with her. From the start she refused to acknowledge the symptoms I had of a learning disability that was negatively affecting my school success. She also told me she could only diagnose that learning disability if she treated something else first, something I didn’t need help with nor want it. She put me on medication that made everything significantly worse and when I told her that she was very rude about it. It took 9 months for her to finally give me my diagnosis. Come to find out, in her consult note she spoke about me like I was lazy, irresponsible, and dumb. From all of the reviews I’ve seen about her online, it seems like she doesn’t believe anyone when they have a learning disability even though she specializes in that. I needed the consult note for school and it was the only evidence of my diagnoses or treatment, it wasn’t until after I used it for school that I realized how awful she made me seem or how much she… sounded like she didn’t agree with her diagnosis even though I met the diagnosis questions and had been evaluated by another doctor who didn’t have the ability to properly diagnose that issue. Truly the worst doctor I have ever seen.

I thought of Dr McMahon the other day, as she was my psychiatrist for many years when in Michigan. She inspired me to follow my dream which was moving to the UK…I’ve been here since 2003. She got me, my anxiety and treated me accordingly. I’m actually shocked at the reviews…I just wanted to say, thank you Dr McMahon…I still quote you to this day, something you said to me that’s stayed with me all these years.

This doctor is now at Pinnacle Health in Albany. She is so rude and arrogant. She stated no one else in the area knows anything about autism and the schools are too lazy. Way to be dismissive of TWO ENTIRE PROFESSIONS. She also "diagnosed" my son within about 30 seconds of observation. I'd never go back to her and I'd recommend others stay away. Just awful.

As a colleague in the mental health field looking for a psychiatric referral for a patient, I was extremely disappointed in Dr. McMahon's treatment. She was rude, unprofessional, impatient and inappropriate in her comments about a troubled person in addition to misdiagnosing the person. I am not sure if that was "a bad day" for this doctor but I would not take my chances again.

This doctor is now on staff at an in patient adolescent treatment facility in upstate New York. She not only misdiagnosed my 11 year old daughter and put her on antipsychotic medications she didn't need, she over medicated her to the point where I feared for my daughter's safety. Dr. McMahon completely disregarded the fact that I continued to voice concerns over the treatment and the quick increases and dosages of medications. And although I verbally objected, she continued with dosage increases. Dr. McMahon has no time for parental concerns or parental insights on their own children.

I have been seeing Dr Mcmahon for over 6 years, she is great, smart, educated and a wonderful doctor. I am blessed to have had her in my life and be a part of my treatment.

I have had nothing but great experiences with Dr. McMahon in the 3 years that I have been seeing her. She is extremely prompt with appointments, full of knowledge and suggestions, and I have never felt rushed or put off. She always has time to answer any questions I have. Dr. Mc Mahon goes out of her way to make herself available to her patients and answers her calls promptly. Her staff is also very helpful, I have never found them to be anything but kind and professional.

Dr. McMahon misdiagnosed my 13 year old daughter- put her on medication that had harmful side effects. Furthermore, she misdiagnosed my daughter and set her on the wrong course for life! We are now suffering the repercussions at age 18 from this tragedy!

I take my son to see Dr. McMahon- She makes us very comfortable at every visit. We have no problems with scheduling imprompt to appointments or getting medication refills. She is a great doctor for our son and has helped us out a lot. Sometimes I feel like she could spend more time talking to him, but that is hard with his condition.
