I am 70 and had a complete tear of my right shoulder rotator cuff. Dr Kaback made the repair in mid August 2017. I've had minimal pain (more discomfort than pain) during the recovery period. The doctor was easy to talk to, had excellent bedside manner and the results have been terrific. Four months post surgery and I am back playing golf and tennis!
This is not the first time I have seen Dr. Kaback. But each time I have seen him, he has been prompt, personable and very knowledgeable in his specialty. He gathers info, does his physical examination and discusses the various treatments deemed appropriate in timely fashion. He takes the least aggressive path and follows up with his patients to determine if more aggressive treatment is necessary. His view is the patient's time is as valuable as his time.
DR. LEE KABACK After injuring my elbow and being diagnosed with a torn triceps tendon, by OrthoNY, on Everett Rd., in Albany, NY, I was referred to Lee Kaback MD, by OrthoNY, on 06/23/2017. Dr. Kaback is an Orthopedic Surgeon, specializing in injuries to the elbow. Dr. Kaback is very professional, has a good attitude and is a likeable person. When I met with Dr. Kaback, at his Delmar, NY, office, on 06/26/2017, I was taken in several minutes early for his initial examination, which I really appreciated, (I really hate wasting my time, sitting around waiting in a medical office for a scheduled appointment because they are late taking you in…not the case here!). Dr. Kaback confirmed my injury and discussed what needed to be done to repair & reattach my triceps tendon to my elbow. He went over the proposed corrective procedure, as well as the amount of time after the procedure my arm would be in a full cast and for which I would be out of service. He answered all of my questions and painted a complete picture enabling me to make a decision about the surgery. I opted for the surgery as soon as possible, to have it done and over with so I can recover as soon as possible. Dr. Kaback and his staff got the ball rolling quickly and I had my surgery on 07/07/2017...a mere 11 days after my initial consultation with him. From the time I checked into St. Peters Hospital for the surgery, to the moment I left after the surgery, everything went well and like clockwork. After my surgery, the Nurse in the hospital told me that because my surgery was on my elbow joint, I’d be needing heavy-duty pain medication after the pain block wore off because I’d be in a lot of pain and I was given a prescription for Oxycodon-Acetaminophen, (up to 2 tablets every 4 hours as needed). However, after Dr. Kaback’s surgery, surprisingly, I was never in a lot of pain and I would say I only had very minor discomfort - nothing I would even classify as pain. I took only one of the pain pills, daily, and only before bed, for only the first few days after the surgery and only as a precaution so I wouldn’t be interrupted during my sleep with pain and I then discontinued using them because I never experienced pain. I had a full cast on my arm which pretty much immobilized my elbow so I was unable to bend it to stress the newly reattached tendon. After the initial cast from the hospital was cut off, at my first follow-up visit with Dr. Kaback, I had two separate full arm fiberglass casts which were installed at subsequent follow-up visits. Whenever I saw Dr. Kaback for a follow-up examination, I was always taken in early and sometimes, I was completely gone from the building, before the scheduled appointment time even started. I think Dr. Kaback did a great job repairing my elbow injury and based on my experience, I would give him top honors as a surgeon…Although I had a full cast on my arm for a month, my injury was pretty much pain free, immediately after the surgery and to this day, two and a half months after the surgery…and several days after the final cast came off, I had almost full range of motion at my elbow. It’s still not 100% but, hopefully, it will get there…
I would not recommend him to anyone! I had a work injury to my hand/arm and he came into every appointment with me with the mindset that I was trying to cheat the system. He sent me for nerve test on my bad arm, but never my good arm to compare. He accused me of trying to stay on workers compensation to be a stay at home mom while my husband works (I'm a single mother with no help). He would not listen to me one bit. My therapist was amazing and would send Dr. Kaback letters on what he was finding wrong with my arm and his thoughts on it, which Dr. Kaback openly told me he would not ready them. When I finally told him I was done being treated by him he told me he would preform the surgery that I had been needing, I told him no! Who lets a doctor do a surgery they don't even think is necessary?? I don't trust him one bit and would never recommend anyone to see him!
