Dr. Lee Richard Katzman, MD

l changed my insurance from Scripps to Sharp just so I could have Dr. Katzman do the cataract surgery I needed, as he came highly recommended. Complicating factors included a retinal detachment in that eye the year prior, my astigmatism, and the fact that I’d had lasik surgery over two decades ago. Nonetheless, Dr. Katzman performed a miracle. Within hours of my surgery, I could see clearly. There was never any pain, nor any evidence of a surgery, just the resulting miracle of perfect vision in an eye that had been problematic for nearly two years. I can’t recommend Dr. Katzman highly enough. Not only is he an ocular genius, he has a great manner. His staff is pretty great too. I fully intended to switch back to Scripps after the surgery, but my entire Sharp experience has been so amazing that I’m staying. Everyone – from my primary care physician, to billing, to x-ray, to podiatry – has been wonderful. I didn’t know what I was missing.

I had a great experience at Alvarado eye Associates with Dr. Katzman. The facility is nice, they seem to have a ton of technology and machines, and he spent time with me. Wait times were appropriate, in and out of the office within an hour or so. Expected for a dilated eye exam. This is probably the best office in east county. Highly recommend!

Great eye doctor. He did pterygium surgery on my friend and she looks awesome. Listens to your issues and makes a logical treatment plan. Best eye doctor I have seen in many years. His new office is going to be in La Mesa, CA which is a drive for me but I’m going to make it happen. At my age, you just want to find good doctors and then keep them!

Dr. Katzman is just the best eye doctor there is. I came in to see him as an emergency initially, my daughter got hit in the eye with a tennis ball! He treated the eye for inflammation and made me rest assured she would be ok. He explained everything so clearly, which is a breath of fresh air if you’ve been in doctors offices lately. Since then I sent my mother in to see him for cataract surgery and my cousin for lasik! If he was a mechanic I’d let him fix my car too. Front desk told me he won San Diego Top Doctors this year!

I came to San Diego from Ohio and went to Dr. Katzman’s office to establish my eye care locally. I could not be happier. This had to be the most thorough eye exam I have ever had. If note, he is an excellent communicator which is important when you are in the 70 and older age bracket. We want doctors that explain things well but also know how to listen. I wish some of my other doctors could learn from Dr Katzman! I recommend making an appointment with Dr. Lee Katzman, you won’t regret it. You do need to be prepared to be in the office for about 1-2 hours total, though. But that’s the same at all doctors offices now, so it’s hard to complain about the “norm”.

Dr.Katzman has great bedside manner and is a pleasure to see for your eye care needs, serious or routine. He did a corneal transplant on my neighbor, which is how I got the referral to get checked out. My visit with him was very informative, much more than other eye checkups I have been to. He is definitely passionate about his trade, which is refreshing to see. So many other doctors seem burnt out lately. Morris eye group is a great facility with tons of good doctors, but if you have any real eye issues or concerns, request Dr. Katzman specifically.

Had a great experience with Dr. Katzman. I’ve been putting off getting my eye exam for the last year or so (not sure why), but a friend convinced me to get checked out at Morris eye group with Dr. K specifically. I was seeing an optometrist in the area. You have to ask for him or you will get assigned to whoever the next available doctor is. The exam was quick (in and out of the office within 1.5 hours), he educated me about my eyes, gave me glasses and contacts, and I was on my way. The office staff said he is one of their busy surgeons so I’m not sure how many regular eye exams he does. But if you’re new to the office might as well try for him! Rest of the staff is very professional, and my bill cost me the same as anywhere else I had been over the years. So no funny business as far as that goes. Highly recommend.

I was referred to Dr. Katzman by another eye doctor that wasn’t sure what else to do for my eye. I tried all kinds of drops and ointments but we couldn’t get my eye to be comfortable. I wake up with a very painful eye that lasts for a couple days, then returns every few weeks. It’s called an erosion. It has been a frustrating way to live the last few months to say the least. Dr. Katzman then performed a cornea surgery on me with a hi-tech laser and ever since then I have been cured! I wish I knew that I needed a cornea specialist in the first place! Like other reviews I found about Dr. Katzman online, he has a great bedside manner and exudes a confidence that is reassuring to experience as a nervous patient. He is the real deal, and his office staff and technicians are fantastic as well. 5 stars for Dr. Katzman and the rest of the practice.

I knew Dr. Katzman was going to be the right doctor for me at the initial consultation! I had been to one other local eye practice and I felt more like a number there. Now, although Dr. Katzman does a ton of surgery (and obviously has a lot of patients) I still felt like he took the time to review my goals of care with me, and then reassured me about the process of the surgery and expectations for recovery. It felt very customized to my needs. You may think he’s a little young to be as good as he is, but his age may be part of the reason why he’s so good! Sometimes the older doctors are out of touch with the latest trends or jaded from doing this for decades on end. He has a passion for what he does and it does shine through. My overall impression is that Dr. Katzman is a great doctor and surgeon, and if I had a third eye I would have no hesitation trusting him to work on that one too!

Dr. Lee Katzman has the best surgical hands in town! I was in and out of surgery in a jiffy, completely painless, everything was as he explained to me in advance. I was told to stick to a younger doctor for my eye surgery as the technology is always advancing and the previous generation of doctors are less likely to keep up. I can assure you Dr. Katzman is using all of the latest equipment and he knows what he’s doing! If eye surgery is on the menu I wouldn’t let a family or friend go anywhere else! His bedside manner is top notch too!
