Dr. Leila S Yassa, MD

Dr. Yassa is exceedingly well informed, efficient, and dexterous, as well warm and charming. There is no better endocrinologist. She is exquisite.

I sepnt months waiting for an appointment her after my PCP had referred me. Given the severity of my symptoms, that was fine. But once I arrived, I can safely say I have never been treated more poorly by a doctor. The information I provided and past history were all but ignored, and she believed she knew after 30 seconds exactly what was wrong. I went for multiple tests, most of which were unnecessary given my history, and not only did she 'lose' and forget about the results, but basically even after the lab work showed that what she 'thought' was incorrect, that is the only diagnosis/explanation she kept talking about. Even the resident was shocked, and asked 'aren't you listening to what is being said?" Stupidly, I stayed for even another encounter, which was virtually identicail before finally seeking 2 outside opinions. The problem was identified by BOTH outside doctors after reviewing my tests to date and supplementing with a panel of bloodwork. I wasted a year with Dr… Yassa when I had a much friendly and more knowledgeable answer within 3 weeks after consulting 2 outside doctors. Please do not waste your time with this woman. She is an embarrassment to MGH and unless she improves her patient interaction, or re-reads some basic books to improve her knowledge about simple conditions in her field, she should be asked to leave.

I saw Dr. Yassa for a consultation about a benign thyroid lump. I had already seen a general practitioner and general surgeon about the problem, neither of whom explained what was happening to me very well, or why they recommended the steps they wanted to take (surgery).Dr. Yassa asked me about the history of this thyroid nodule, my and my family's medical history, and was engaged and attentive while I talked. She explained to me why my surgeon said we should take it out, even though it's benign. She explained my other options and the dangers and benefits of each choice. She also showed me the ultrasound pictures of the lump, filled me in on the latest in thyroid research, and was overall very caring, respectful, tactful, and patient. I felt like I was talking to a friend.Thank God for Dr. Yassa! I now feel well-informed and well equipped to make good choices about my treatment.
