Anesthesiologists are physicians who are trained to administer anesthetics, which are medicines used to block nerve sensation. Anesthesia can be either local to one specific part of a body, like a tooth, or regional to block feeling to a larger portion of the body, such as during an epidural for child birth. It can also be more general to block sensation to the entire body, resulting in unconsciousness.
Anesthesiologists assist in surgery by determining how much anesthesia is necessary and by monitoring the patient's level of responsiveness and vital signs throughout the procedure. The anesthesia specialist will also bring the patient out of anesthesia and then continue to monitor his or her vital signs post-operation.
Besides assisting in surgeries, anesthesiologists may also treat patients suffering from chronic pain.

Every Dr. should be this caring. His staff is friendly courteous and so willing to work with your schedule. I've been with Dr. Reyfman for a few years now. I was going to his Quentin location that to me is about 1.5 hrs away but all worth it to see a Dr. that take such care of you the way he does. I am now scheduling appointments in the Manhattan location because it is close to my work place and I can now do early appointments. I was recommended Dr. Reyfman about 3yrs ago he diagnosed my situation worked with me till we found a stable solution to my back problems and was very understanding working with me on the medications that not only he thought were right for me but "we" thought were right for me (I still have a technical job to uphold). I was told I'd probably never wear heels again from my neurologist, well thanks to him I am today. Yes, I still have my herniated discs and back issues (I don't want to do surgery) but I don't think anyone could of solidly directed me in the right path to managing my pain the way he has. Each and every visit he has sat with me and listened shows compassion and we talk out a solution that helps me proceed with managing my pain through my daily life. I will follow him from office to office. This is a very serious procedure and I feel very comfortable with him in charge. Dr. Reyfman is an exceptional Pain Management Doctor. Don't hesitate make an appointment.
This Caribbean medical school trained so called doctor was completely incompetent and wasted my time. I have been having very bad lower back pain for which I was prescribed opioid medications. I had a 2 yr old MRI which was normal. For this reason he refused to treat me and completely cut me off from my medication, and was left to fend for myself. This fool only knows how to treat images on a screen and not the actual patients symptoms. On top of everything he was condescending. He is a couple of years older than me, I am married, about to graduate medical school, and am trying to start a family, yet he referred to me as a"kid" multiple times. Just because the images that were done 2 years ago don't show any pathology, it doesn't mean the patient is not in pain, and he completely refused to treat. I learned a lot from this experience, mostly what kind of doctor NOT to be.
Dr reyfmen was wonderful. I just had surgery a couple of months earlier and was still in so much pain I could barely get through the day. After examining me and reading over my paperwork, he knew the problem and took care of it. It has been 3 months now and I am still pain free!
