Dr. Lisa Waxman, MD

Very thorough diagnosis. I felt comfortable with her knowledge and expertise, Several other residents of Wyandotte County that I've talked to about her concur with my comments.

She is a little different, but very buoyant. She's from New York and has a NY accent. I wasn't sure about her at first, but by the end of the appointment, I was confident that she was a very good doctor, and I would recommend her. It was easy to get an appointment and I did not wait long. She biopsied several lesions on the spot. Most doctors make you come back for a second appointment (probably so they can charge an additional fee.) She told me what type of lesion she thought each one was and gave me corresponding data sheets to take home. She was very efficient. I was very comfortable with her, and her office staff and nurse were all very friendly. I have not had a follow up yet, so I can't rate her on that yet.

I have been seeing Dr. Waxman for several years. I have a skin disorder called GA and she has been very helpful in controlling it. I have also had several pre-cancerous moles removed due to her watchful eye! A very personable and knowledgeable physician.

I have seen Dr. Waxman several times and have learned that she is intelligent and knows her specialty well. Her mannerisms are a bit different from the norm, but if you tell her to slow down and explain things in terms you can understand, she does.

She wanted to continue to inject my scalp with 8 to 10 shots of cortisone every time I went to see her and it rarely worked, rather than putting me on meds for scalp psoriasis kept telling me the meds are poison as if the stuff she was injecting in my head was a better choice, not to mention what she was putting me through. Was very not nice kept telling me to go to KU. Was as if she could make more money injecting me than to look for a better solution. Also took a long time to get into see her at either location booked up. Do not want to return to her.

I have never felt so humiliated and disheartened with a doctor as I did seeing Dr. Waxman. She was rude, unfriendly and uncaring and had no regard for my feelings. I had been losing hair for a year, and had lost at least 1/3 of my full head of hair. I even brought a bag of hair from the last several days to show since I had never seen a dermatologist. I asked her if she could run any tests (lab work or hair sample tests). My primary physician had already run a thyroid panel to rule that out. Dr. Waxman laughed and told me that lab tests were a waste of time and money. She proceeded to write out several prescriptions even though she could not diagnose me. At one point, she suggested that I may have a psychological problem. This was after I told her that I believed I was suffering from telogen effluvium and would experience itching and tingling on the scalp shortly before a severe round of shedding. The prescriptions written (and never filled) were for Spironolactone, Loprox and… Olux E foam. Ironically, she stated running lab tests were a waste of time and money but I suppose writing out prescriptions for an unknown diagnosis are not. She hurriedly walked out of the room in her quirky manner and didn't say anything positive. I was in tears as my 8 year old son was trying to comfort me. I felt horrible that he had witnessed such unprofessionalism and lack of compassion in a doctor.

My wife and I have been to Dr. Lisa Waxman a number of times over the last 15 years for various issues. Dr. Waxman has always been very thorough and caring. Sometimes she seems rushed, but if you have questions Dr. Waxman will spend as much time as you need, to explain things in detail.

Dr. Waxman listens carefully, answers questions thoroughly, explains her reasoning in her diagnosis, and prescribes effectively. She knows what she is doing! I had a mole removed and she used a suture she learned from a plastic surgeon. It's the first time I've had stitches without a scar! She is so capable and matter-of-fact that it is easy to trust her, and she is absolutely brilliant. I've used her, and have taken my adolescent son to see her. She spent so much time with him, and treated him as an adult (which he appreciated very much.) The two times she has had to prescribe a medication, they worked miracles. She's a pragmatist and has a great sense of humor. We love her.

I swore after the first time I would never go to see her again but, desperate times call for desperate measures. She gave me a patch test, told them I was allergic to nickel, didn't listen. She never would let me talk. Gave me a prescription for an expensive lotion but, no medication for the problem. My issue has gotten worse and now I can't even move my fingers. Thanks Lisa Waxman!
