He performed a trabeculectomy on my eye. The the next day the IOP in the subject eye was 2. This is a VERY dangerous condition since the choroidal space around the eye is full of blood. When the pressure inside the eye falls significantly lower than the blood around the eye, an hemorrhage can occur leading to detachment of the retina and loss of vision. I was told nothing of the risk and I experienced such a hemorrhage. After the next day pressure check, Dr. Cantor was gone for 6 weeks leaving no experienced glaucoma doctor to provide care. Luckily my excellent retina doctor was available, but he was not able to do everything needed. By the time Dr. Cantor returned, I had developed a cataract. When Dr. Cantor removed the cataract, he tore the bag, so that the artificial lens had to be removed several months later. Next Dr. Cantor suggested doing a tube shunt using a shunt with no valve which could have resulted in another condition of very low pressure. I found another doctor. I have… now had a total of eleven surgeries to compensate for the damage originating from the excessive low pressure after the trab. The best I can hope for is limited vision from the damaged eye. I have been told by more than one doctor that Dr. Cantor is known for leaving patients with very low IOP conditions.
