Dr. Luis F Ospina, MD

The best!

Dr. Ospina took me in his office immediately upon being called to the back as a new patient. When I told him of my documented medical issue, he told me it was nonsense, and he has seen patients with much worse. I'm sure he has, but regardless, my issue is physically there, it is not just a guessed diagnosis. He was not willing to look outside the box about anything, and said that, because all of my numbers were fine, I will be fine. Even though my numbers were not previously fine. I will not be returning to him for a follow up.

Dr. Ospina is recognized as being among the "Best Doctors in America;" as his patient for 15 years, I heartily agree!

Dr. Ospina has done a great job for me. I rely on him to keep my diabetes under control and have full confidence in him as I know he provides me with the best care possible. He is very knowledgeable and treats me with respect and compassion at all times. I would highly recommend him.

I would not consider recommending Dr Ospina to anyone. Some time ago, I took my mother in law who suffers a thyroid condition to see him, and his first words to her were "So what have you been doing with yourself, besides eating everything in sight." I was disgusted and shocked. She was 156 pounds at 5'8" tall, and she exercises every single day and has the healthiest diet of anyone I know. She takes her medication as prescribed and does everything she can to keep her weight down. She has had 6 healthy children and at the age of 57 looks absolutely amazing. While that rude approach may work as a wake up call for some patients (although very few I imagine) it was completely unnecessary in this case, and his words left my mother in law feeling anxious and self conscious. She thought 'If a doctor is saying I'm fat, I must be?' It took her a long time, and the opinion of another much kinder and more professional specialist, to calm her fear. Most, if not all patients who go to see… a doctor like this know better than anyone that they are overweight, or struggling with their diets/medications, not to mention their self esteem, and the LAST thing they need for their self confidence is an attitude like this. I have told everyone we know to avoid this doctor.

i really liked Dr. ospina, he is very fatherly, and kind. I would definitely recommend him.

I would never recommend this doctor to a friend. I don't need a doctor who flatters me, but I certainly don't want one who is unkind. After a year of being on a steroid for an unrelated (to my thyroid) condition, I had gained weight. I had also been on a 1200 calorie/day diet and had been working out regularly. Before even saying anything to me, he walks in and says "Hi. You've gained a lot of weight since last year. You're too fat and need to go on a diet." When I explained it to him, he insisted that I needed to get rid of "all of the fries and Big Macs" and when I told him I was a vegetarian and couldn't eat fries because greasy foods make me sick, he continued to tell me I was eating too much and insisted that it could not be related to my thyroid or the other medication. I have never had a doctor make me feel like that and I will never go back again because of the treatment I received that day. I spoke to another patient of his and found he'd done the same to her, except that… she's rather slender!!

I have been a patient of Dr. Ospina's for many years. He is an excellent physician with excellent follow up even at off hours (weekends and evenings). I would highly recommend him to individuals with Type 1 diabetes.
