Prior to arriving in Tennessee, Dr. Makhni practiced for over 24 years in Port St. Lucie, Fla., where he was on staff at Port St. Lucie Medical Center as Chief of Department of Medicine, Lawnwood Regional Medical Center as the Director of Cardiac Catherization Laboratory, and Treasure Coast Diagnostics as a part owner. He and his wife, also a physician, have owned Makhni Cardiology and Medical Associates since 1986. He earned his medical degree in 1973, practicing in hospitals in India, Scotland and England before relocating and practicing in the United States since 1977. "I plan to help educate as much as I plan to help heal," Dr. Makhni said. "I hope to help convince people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, which is essential for a good quality of life." He and his wife have three children: two are graduates of MIT and are now enrolled in Harvard Medical School. The youngest is a junior at MIT.
