Dr. Marcie Beth Schneider, MD

I saw Dr. Schneider when I was a young adolescent in Rye. I had amenorrhea from a very active sports life. I had no history of disordered eating and a very healthy relationship with food. Dr. Schneider put me on a high fat diet, suggesting I eat foods like Ben & Jerry's ice cream and donuts. I was surprised, asking if these foods were healthy, and she asked me if I had an eating disorder. I was upset with her attitude with you. I was told if I did not gain weight, there would be devastating effects for my bones and health. While this has medical truth, the way it was conveyed caused great anxiety. I complied with her eating regime and gained 8 pounds in one summer. As a 14 year old, this made me feel terrible and contributed to low self-esteem, dieting, and eventually an eating disorder. Years later I was surprised to learn that 3 other friends in the Rye after had similar experiences with this doctor and office (also being told they should eat ice cream and donuts; being accused… of eating disorders; and being intimidated into eating more). I wish my parents had taken me elsewhere.
