Dr. Maria-Gisela Mercado-Deane, MD

Dr. Mercado-Deane is a graduate from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Completed a residency in Pediatrics at Tulane University in New Orleans. Worked for two years as a Chief of Pediatrics at Huey P. Long Hospital in Louisiana. This was follow by a second residency in Radiology, also at Tulane University. Completed a Pediatric Radiology Fellowship at the Childrens National Medical Center, in Washington, DC. She is Board certified in Pediatrics and Radiology, with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Pediatric Radiology.

She held academic appointments in the Departments of Pediatric and Radiology at the Medical College of Georgia Childrens Medical Center; at The University of Texas in Houston; and at Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital in Cleveland. At the present time she is a Junior Associate at Austin Radiological Association, and Staff Radiologist at Dell Children's Medical Center, Austin TX.

Dr. Mercado-Deane is a Fellow of the American Academy of …Pediatrics, a member for over 20 years. And, during the past 8 yrs, active in the Section of Radiology as a member/ Chair of the Program committee, past Chair of the Nominations committees and now an elected member of the Executive Committee. Also, a Co-author of the Academys Radiology education handout "Imaging Tests: A Look Inside Your Childs Body".

Her activities in other national organizations included serving on several committees of the Society for Pediatric Radiology, and on the American Association of Women Radiologist.

She is active in teaching, clinical care, and research. Her primary research interest is in swallowing dysfunction in children, with publications and scientific presentation in national and international meetings including the RSNA and AAP. She participates as faculty in the the AAP yearly National Convention and Exhibits and the Practical Pediatrics CME course.
