Dr. Maria Elena Saluta-Ferrer, MD

This doctor serves as an on-call doctor from time to time within my healthcare network. I had forgotten to pick up my medication (Wellbutrin) after a day of missing it (I messed up on timing my refill) and needed to have my refill moved from my normal pharmacy to Walgreens pharmacy so I could pick it up after hours. I had already started experiencing some withdrawal symptoms such as mental fogginess and severe depressive ideation. When I called the on-call department and was connected to her, I explained my situation. I was immediately laughed at. She literally laughed at me, and told me that it was not her problem that I forgot to get my medication on time. She said that she would be doing me a favor by making this request, and that she doesn't have the time to deal with me. She berated me for being irresponsible and said if it really mattered to me to get my meds, then I would have remembered. When I commented on the lack of professionalism and the negative impact that type of… commentary can have on someone's mental health (especially when already unstable), she said that I "deserved" what was coming to me since I was so irresponsible. After I asked her if she could just help me or not, she said "Fine." and then hung up on me. One would think that the on-call doctor would be... on-call, without resistance or anger at the patients they are being paid a lot of money to support... I was disgusted at the treatment this doctor gave me without ever having met me before or knowing my situation when I was experiencing a mental health crisis and sought out help. This is the type of interaction that discourages people from seeking support. To be frank, people harm themselves after interactions as condescending and patronizing as this one. I was extremely polite to her, and if she spoke to me this way, I can only imagine how many other people she has mistreated.

D.r ferrer has always been very nice to me she always takes her time to listen to me not like other doctors that i have had in my past that were always in a rush with me other doctors never listened to me and would just perscribe me medicine and on my way i went this is actually the very first doctor that i have ever had that really cares, listens, and if you tell her your in any kind of pain she is good with working on any kind of problem her patients have right away like for instance i had a real bad stomach pain i made an appointment to see her that same day she sent me that same day for blood work and scheduled me for a ultrasound i found out what i had in less then a week i love that about her she really cares about her patients dr. ferrer is also my sister and mothers doctor as well and they also think she is a great doctor and they love her i highly recommend her. Thank you

This doctor has always been right on with her diagnosis. She has always spent as much time as needed and answered all of my questions. My daughters also see her and love her. She will also send you to a specialist if she is unsure about anything.
