I have arthritis in my left ankle. To relieve the pain, I take pain injections. He is very careful and explains all details thoroughly before accepting the injection. I may consider surgery before he leaves in July. Dr. Conklin is very thorough, and I highly recommend him to anyone who is having ankle/foot problems.

I feel immensely grateful to Dr. Conklin—along with the entire team at Panorama Orthopedics and OrthoColorado hospital—and recommend him highly for any ankle-related procedures. In March 2023 I underwent total ankle replacement surgery with Mark Conklin as the surgeon. Prior to the surgery I had been experiencing intense ongoing pain in my left ankle. This was due to bone-on-bone arthritis in the tibiotalar joint. When I was 18 years old, I broke my ankle very seriously (fractured tibia, fibula, and talus) while playing college basketball. Over the years, the arthritis gradually worsened, to a point where surgery of this kind became the only viable option for relieving the pain and regaining some mobility. And the procedure with Dr. Conklin accomplished both these things: I no longer have any pain in that joint, and have regained enough mobility to comfortably walk, hike, bike, etc. Bottom line is that it has improved the quality of my life significantly. Yeah! That said, the… post-surgical rehab process was rather extensive, so anyone considering this surgery should be prepared for this. Having successfully completed this process, here are some pro tips: Pro Tip #1: To help the surgical scar heal, use a combination of an aloe-vera-based lotion and emu oil. Aloe vera is great for healing the skin, and the emu oil is very high in vitamin E and also has an amazing superpower ability to penetrate to the deepest levels of the skin. So, mixing a few drops of emu oil with a dollop of aloe lotion and using this to massage on and around the surgical scar will help the scar heal more quickly and completely. Pro Tip #2: Once you’re out of the walking-boot, but still not feeling totally comfortable putting full weight on your surgically repaired foot/ankle, find an anti-gravity treadmill to have sessions on. This amazing device (originally developed for use by astronauts) allows you to walk, run, or jog with your feet/legs supporting less than your full body weight. This allows you to develop the neurological connections related to walking comfortably, and enjoy a bit of a cardiovascular workout, while having only 20%-90% of your body weight involved in the process. Pro Tip #3: For ongoing support for your surgically repaired ankle (and the rest of your body), find a kaiut yoga class to attend. This therapeutic/restorative form of yoga practice is designed specifically to heal and enhance the functionality of the body’s joints, in a way that supports the body’s overall comfort and wellbeing. Dr. Conklin is the best specialist I have been in the care of. He is very patient and caring. I had two different surgeries one on my right foot and one on my left foot. Dr. Conklin took the time to explain in detail how each surgery was going to be performed, and what to expect during the healing process. He is kind, patient and explains things thoroughly pre-op and post-op. I am very happy with both surgeries.I highly recommend him. He is a 10/10 in his field.
