Dr. Mark William Mittauer, MD

As the senior member of my Medical Board, he withheld a subordinate provider's SF 502 (narrative summary) of my case from my outpatient military health record. And, therefore, from a Physical Evaluation Board (PEB), even though Manual for the Medical Department (MANMED) required inclusion of the SF 502. It is not clear whether the PEB's decision would have been different if Dr. Mittauer had included the SF 502 in my military health record. But continued absence of the SF 502 narrative summary means my military health record is incomplete into my retirement as veteran.

Dr. Mittauer, a Veteran, and Hawkeye fan, understands that you can’t clock a successful visit. Living in different parts of Iowa, I have had the experience of the 30/60 minute obligation. In no case is Dr. Mittauer limiting his psychoanalysis, and patient interaction, to a preconceived length of time, and depth of the proverbial “peeling of the onion.” He has experiences and opinions, and his visits are personal and engaging. In these visits, his personal, and professional concerns are absent, and this makes the experience unlike any other Doctor I have had the privilege to confide in.

Dr. Mittauer was always on time and if late by 10 min. or more, he was so apologetic. The time spent with me was as good as my insurance would allow and sometimes he'd go over if no patients waiting. I felt very comfortable with him and he spoke in my terms. He would always explain side effects and insure I wasn't having problems with them. Great follow up. As far as diagnosis, I've never been diagnosed with just one issue so it's hard for any doctor. But he did as good a job as expected and I felt at ease with it.
