Dr. Mark B. Pochapin, MD

To me a doctor’s office is a reflection of the doctor. This doctor was referred ti me by another doctor at NYU. I have called over a two week span many times and could never get a human being. Then today I got through to the office manager and I could see why the office is such a mess. She, an administrator, is asking me my symptoms and why I want to see a gastroenterologist. I told her to read the notes of the referring physician and she is not a medical person so why would she have a need to know? In her immaturity she became quite combative. There was no choice but to hang up and give up. I can’t imagine what the doctor would be like in such an office.

Comforting, honest , very knowledgeable and current on advances in his field of expertise, surrounded by an attentive and helpful staff. Unfortunately you have to be sick to meet this wonderful doctor . A mench and professional of the highest order.

I really think Dr Pochapin is the best Gastroenterologist, great bedside manner and very intellegent. I would trust him with all my health related issues!

I had a flat, intestine embedded polyp that my local gastro doctor in Staten Island did not feel comfortable removing. I found Dr. Pochapin while doing research for "best doctors in nyc". He spent so much time with me during the consult, explaining everything, asking if I understood everything, if I had concerns and assuring me that he could remove this large polyp, and if he went in and felt in any way the procedure would endanger me, he would not procede and we would find another course of action. My safety came first. The day of procedure in NYU, he spent time with me before surgery making sure I was comfortable and explained each step that was going to happen in the operating room and afterwards. This doctor is incredible and so kind and caring, puts you at ease and I had complete confidence in him. I recommend Dr. Pochapin highly.

Pochapin is a star in the field who came to national prominence when he performed NBCs Katie Couric colonoscopy on the Today show. But none of that matters when you are a patient, where it's more important to care about his clinical prowess, and how he and his medical, nursing, and ancillary staff treat you. You may have to wait to get an appointment, but in my experience once you do it is an efficient and educational visit. Intake of history is done by assistants, medical history by a nurse, so he can spend max time with the patient. He is careful to make sure risks and benefits are understood.
