Dr. Marvin Alan Rachelefsky

We took my mother to Dr. Rachelefsky for her Alzheimers condition. When I made the appointment I asked the office if it would be possible for my Dad and myself to speak with him prior to him seeing my mother. We have been very careful during her illness not to mention Alzheimers, because her mother also had this awful disease and it was always her nightmare that this would also happen to her, unfortunately it has. I spoke with the office the day of the appointment to ask if this would be possible and they said to let his nurse know when we arrived. I wrote a letter explaining what had been going on with my mother and gave it to the office staff when we arrived and again that we would like to talk with him privately before he examined her. Well this did not happen, they called us back before speaking with either of us. I was able to leave the room while we where waiting to see if I could and the nurse did say I could wait in the hall until he came out of another patients room… to talk with him. I was able to do this and he was very willingly to speak with me, but the whole time I was explaining our concerns he hardly ever looked me in the face and expressed that he would be sensitive to our request. Needless to say the time with my mother was very uncomfortable and heart wrenching. He did not use any tack with explaining her current condition with us.I know she has alzheimers but she is still very aware of many things and this was devastating to her and all of us. She was so hurt and upset with us when we left. I pray know one else ever has to go through this kind of day.

this doctor has helped me through the years, with trying different medicines and listening when I need to have him hear me. I will be very sad when he retires but I hope I will be able to find another neuro with his bedside manner and ability to care and take care of his patients!
