Dr. Mary Lawrence Harris, MD

No compassion at all. Cold! I was scheduled for a colonoscopy and because I did not totally finish drinking prep, she refused to do it. She could’ve at least attempted the procedure as the time was already scheduled and I spent 2 miserable days preparing. I’ve had numerous colonoscopies for years and have never been treated so poorly. Her office visits are pretty bad too. Cold fish! I believe everyone in the medical profession should handle every patient in a kind and caring fashion, no matter what age they are. Would not recommend.

I have been under Dr. Mary Harris care for more than 16 years. When I first came to her my colitis was out of control when under the care of previous doctors. Dr. Harris has basically helped me to dramatically reduce my symptoms completely through medication and proper diet. I highly recommend her to all family and friends.

Dr. Harris is one of the best doctor's I have ever been involved with. She diagnosed me, referred me to the best surgeon and followed up on my care with earnest and professionalism. She is easy to access and so easy to talk to. She genuinely cares about her patients well being. You cannot go wrong with this lady!

Saw several times for IBS symptoms but never projected a plan for treatment other than keep doing what you're doing, which wasn't providing improvement.

When I first started seeing Dr. Harris, I was very happy with my treatment. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and she was very thorough with tests, scans, etc. to make sure my diagnosis was accurate and I did not have any other underlying conditions. She would always answer my questions in full and return my calls promptly. However, over the past year or so I have gotten the impression she doesn't like me. She is short and impatient with me whenever I see her for appointments, spending barely 3 minutes with me. Her nurse practitioner does all the work now. She is very courteous and kind when I go in for a procedure, however. She is cheerful and very nice. It's a bit strange the change in her demeanor depending on what I'm seeing her for. I like her staff, but I'm feeling as if she herself is being dismissive of me and not as thorough as she once was, like she wants to just medicate me and send me on my way.

Dr. Harris is a Specialist's Specialist. I was sent to her after some findings through a colonoscopy that my GI wanted a higher level specialist to handle. She was thorough, pleasant and made me feel like I had done a great job taking care of myself. She was empathetic to my fears and treated me gently in response to that.

Dr. Harris was very very moody; some days she was happy to see me, other days she made it clear she found me tiresome and irritating. Once she came out and said she had a sicker patient she would rather be seeing (this after I'd taken the day off work to come to the appointment). The strangest part about seeing Harris is that she never once examined me or even touched me. Though I'm not sure why, I had a suspicion it was because I was a male. (At one point the mere possibility of a digital rectal exam came up--maybe a resident raised it--and she became nervous and claimed her fingers "weren't long enough" to do it.) I've never seen doctor so unwilling to have physical contact with a patient. She never once touched my abdomen--even briefly, though she is a gastroenterologist and I was there with abdominal issues. There were other shortcomings, including not returning my phone calls. I had more attentive care from the nurse/nurse-practitioner. Finally, I should note that… Harris also is not Board-Certified in gastroenterology.

She was absolutely fantastic--pays attention to every detail--draws pictures to explain everything.

Extremely kind and intelligent physician. I have never had a GI who knew me and my condition better. I would recommend Dr. Harris to any patient with GI issues, especially patients with IBD/on Remicade/hoping to become pregnant. She is an expert in these areas. Overall, a wonderful doctor and a wonderful person.

This doctor was the most abrasive and arrogant doctor my daughter (the actual patient) and I have ever dealt with. She questioned numerous medications that our primary care doctor prescribed to the point where she seemed to think that our doctors were imcompetent. She basically refused to treat my daughter until she stopped all her medications. This even though the possibility of Crohn's is only one of my daughters medical issues.
