After speaking to one of the office staff members, I made an appointment to see Dr.Tobiason. I told the front desk girl that I was with Aetna and that I already had a primary doctor but wanted to meet Dr. Tobiason to possibly switch to seeing her. I had a conversation with the staff member making sure there would be no confusion as to my intentions upon scheduled visit. I asked if I would have to do anything with my insurance prior to seeing the doctor and she led me to believe that there would be nothing to do but come in for visit. I didn't need to make any changes at this time. When I got to the office everything changed! I was told that I would be responsible to pay out of pocket $125 for the visit since I didn't call my insurance and change to this doctor as my primary doctor. I said I wasn't told I would have to do that for just a "consult." I knew I explained this to the staff member on the phone when i made the appointment and was NOT instructed to do anything with my… insurance prior to the visit. After being told the "New" information, the office manager, staff member was there but never spoke to me who make the appointment, suggested that I call the insurance company right then and simply ask for them to change from my old primary doctor to Dr. Tobiason to cover this visit and the doctor would get paid. I called the insurance company as instructed to change names on my insurance card to be seen this day. NOW I WASN'T FEELING TOO COMFORTABLE as I could see staff members chatting together in the office making me feel like I did something so terrible! AFTER I made the call to the insurance company and changed to this doctor, the office manager comes out and said, "I'm sorry but the doctor isn't comfortable seeing you now after all this confusion." I couldn't believe what I heard! I was the one who was made to feel "uncomfortable" by no fault of mine and was still willing to see this doctor! This was all due to lack of proper instruction by the girl who made my appointment and the doctor turned ME AWAY! AMAZING! I was so surprised by this UNPROFESSIONAL behavior! I was given the option of seeing another doctor in their office on another day. I guess it wasn't meant to be for me to see this doctor. Anyone who responds like this to a possible "new" patient doesn't show me that she knows how to deal with people with compassion! I would have thought the doctor would have now seen me with an apology like "Sorry for the confusion, how can I help you?" The irony of this story is that is why I was going to see her in the first place. I heard she was compassionate. Obviously that was wrong information!
