Staff was courteous. The wait wasn't very long to get seen by the initial technician or the doctor. They were all very patient and thorough. Overall this was a very good experience as I have always had here.

Excellent knowledge in the area of macular degeneration. Willing to answer questions on risk and alternative treatments

The line to check in at the reception desk was very long on 3/16/26 at the Dodge Street location. The lack of receptionists caused me to be 20 minutes late for my 1:30 appointment. When I got into the exam room, there was a gal being trained, so everything took a lot longer. The gal was very inexperienced with the computer system & at taking my eye pressure. The guy (Pell) doing the training asked me if I was taking eye vitamins or if I had a grid. Uh, no. Why would I need to? After Dr Appenzeller checked my eyes, he said there was no change from last year & that everything was stable. Then he said something about macular degeneration. Whoa! That was the first time anyone told me I had it. If everything was the same as last year, why wasn’t I told about having macular degeneration last year? This isn’t the first time I’ve felt that Appenzeller neglected to tell me something. I expect all my doctors to be open & honest about my medical conditions. So I left the office feeling… dissatisfied with the whole visit.

Staff were very helpful. Dr didn’t waste any time and was very thorough. He asked if I had any questions. Definitely recommend him.

Dr. Appenzeller explained the current condition of my eyes, pertaining to my AMD and advised as to the future treatment to be done. He broke this down so that I could understand and be able to make an informed decision on the treatment plan he had outlined.
