I do Cross Fit 5-6 days a week. I developed a herniated disc between C5 and C6. The pain started immediately after a workout, it started like a neck tweak for me often does... after an overhead lift, but this got progressively worse and I finally got an MRI. I desperately want to get back to Cross fit but I want to do it safely and ensure I do not re-injure myself. When I started discussing this and asking questions Lee informed me he did not workout , nor did he know what Cross fit was, he asked me to explain. Within 15 seconds of me describing it he said, " ok you are boring me, you have lost me". From that point on he continued to tell me he didn't like working out and basically told me my injury was no way caused or irritated by my intense workouts and lifting. He wrote off everything I said, he demonstrated a total lack of knowledge on any type of physically activity or athletic movement. He continued to tell me I could resume low impact exercise, running on a treadmill, biking, rowing, elliptical etc... Running on a treadmill is NOT low impact! It blew my mind. He checked his watch several times, told me I was the best smelling patient he had had all day, but not the youngest, and when I spoke about my career in retail he told me he hadn't shopped in stores for years, he paid a man and women to do that for him! Several times he would say" if you asked 100 neurosurgeons..." Guess what? I am not asking 100, I am asking 1, you! The overall experience left me very angry ! He was so self absorbed, came off very arrogant, provided me with no answers to my questions and left me feeling like he had ok'd movements that would actually hurt me more at this point in my healing. He really thinks highly of himself!
Dr Lee listened to my health concerns related to my spine and took the time to explain what the surgery will consist of and answered all of my questions. I felt very comfortable discussing my future surgery and liked the fact he was not pressuring me to do the surgery. Dr Lee was direct in what to expect during and after the surgery. He provided ample time to discuss my situation and I did not feel rushed with my first office visit.
