Dr. Melvin Israel Roat, MD

After having put up with Dr Roat's old school administrative practices for years I have reached the end of my rope. I called today to get a copy of my eyeglass prescription after having had a refraction last year. It had been determined there was no change since 2019. The office did not have a record of the refraction and would not provide me with prescription since according to their lousy records i hadn't had the refraction. The administrator told me i need to see the Dr again. I asked to speak with the Dr. she said he would not return my call. I was unwilling to see the Dr again, I asked her what to do, she said I could go someplace else to get a prescription, so i hung up. I have been on the fence about staying with this practice for years, there is no patient portal, Communicating with this practice is difficult, scheduling must be done months in advance. The consumer experience is poor. Feels like its run on a shoestring, is very busy and doesn't really care if your satisfied.

I have been a Dr. Roat patient for over 5 years. He is very attentive and kind. He listens to my concerns and takes time to explain my condtion, treatments and options. I trust him. He does not rush me and he does not treat his patients with a one size fits all approach. He is truly one of a kind.

Dr. Roat is an excellent doctor and surgeon. He spends a lot of time with the patient and carefully explains everything. He explores options until he has an answer. He monitors you with follow up visits if necessary. Dr. Roat is extremely accessible by phone if you have a question or problem. He recently operated on me for a corneal transplant. Everyone told me not to expect to see as in the movies when the bandage comes off. BUT I COULD!! He is amazing and I am so thankful I found him!

I saw Dr. Roat yesterday for the first time. 1. His staff and nurses are incredibly kind, thorough, and simply excellent. 2. Dr. Roat is brilliant. That was the single best experience I’ve ever had in a medical appointment. I’m actually shocked. He’s so thorough, so kind, and explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it. I received quite an education about the eye to boot! 10,000 stars.

I have now been to see Dr. Roat on three different occasions. He is an excellent professional who takes time to explain what the particular problem is and in a language that a layman can understand. I have no desire to see any other opthalmologist but him.

Extraordinary knowledge of the field - always puts patient first and I utterly trust him

I would recommend Dr. Roat to anyone, no matter what level of eye care they need. He has been my ophthamologist for 5+ years now and I am always glad I am in his care. Dr. Roat approaches patients as if it were his first day on the job: full of interest, concern and advocacy. When you are with him you are his sole focus. He listens to your questions and answers them all with respect and expertise. He wants to know the whole story of why you are seeing him. Your overall health background and your specific vision needs are equally important to him because he wants to make an informed diagnosis and recommendation for how to proceed with treatment. You come away with the sense that Dr. Roat excels in ophthamology and that he is an excellent communicator who loves his work. Every visit is a positive learning experience. I envy any medical student who would have Dr. Roat as their professor. Any medical school would be fortunate to have him on their faculty. By the way, he… has an expert, courteous and friendly support staff. Top grades all the way.

In the time of big hospitals it is not often you can find a doctor who can give both meticulous and comprehensive attention to your care in a timely fashion. Dr Rout has somehow maintains the ability to both treat and educate his patient and he does so with both with dignity and caring.

I have been a patient for 12 years receiving treatment for an ongoing issue that has included a number of emergency visits. Dr Roat has been available weekends holidays and evenings for either a visit or a detailed phone assessment. Dr Roat has a calm way that even when treatment is complicated creates a feeling of well being. All phone messages are answered promptly by his very pleasant staff.
