An otolaryngologist is more commonly referred to as an ENT, someone that can treat medical issues you may be having with you ears, nose, or throat. This is a physician who is specially trained to diagnose and treat conditions of the ear, nose, sinuses, larynx (voice box), mouth, throat, head, and neck. These doctors treat patients through both medical and surgical means. For instance, an otolaryngologist may treat an obstruction of the nasal passage, caused by malformation of the nose, through rhinoplasty.

He may be knowledgeable, but he had no idea how to interact with me. He is gruff and doesn't instill confidence in you. He did not exhibit any empathy nor express any compassion for my disease.

May be competent but a poor bedside manner. Very busy talking lon g hand notes & then transcribing onto his computer. At times curt--not a pl,peasant experience--but may be effective in his work.

Cold, unfriendly and not really concerned about my state. He told me that even if the worst cases of tinnitus, you get used to it in a couple of months which makes me realize that he doesn't have a clue of what tinnitus can be for some people. He also recommended me to have a MRI scan (it wasn't clear that I needed one). He told me that the only thing that may make you feel uncomfortable when doing a MRI scan is the injection of the contrast. He didn't mention at all the level of noise to which a patient is exposed when doing a MRI. I had the MRI and it only worsened my tinnitus due to exposure to that noise. There are "quieter" MRI machines which I believe it would have been very helpful for me to know. The American Tinnitus Association has information about where to find those "quieter" MRI machines and what kind of protection you can bring for your ears. The radiology department where you have your MRI scan doesn't have the best ear protection necessary. In my case I went to Stony Brook and they offer you cheap foam earplugs and bad quality ear muffs. There are better products and you have the option of bringing them so you can protect your ears as it should be. No, I don't recommend this doctor and I don't recommend the cancer center of Stony Brook University Hospital for a MRI scan of your brain.

My experience with Dr. Gordon has always been great.I have had vertigo and chronic ear problems all my life and he has corrected the vertigo in one visit. The ear issues have been controlled because he really spends extra time to explain what he is doing and what to expect. I would highly recommend him. I have been his patient for 10 years.
