Mixed Feelings

I wish there was a portal where I can access my visit notes. It would help me to understand his perspective and my own condition better and help me to make better decisions about my care. My primary doctor and all the other physicians I go to post notes for me to see on their portals.

Dr. Aronow had cured my heel pain 4 yrs ago. Impressed by his brilliant knowledge and compassion, I went to him again with other problems .He attentively examined and explained the alternatives available. He is an excellent doctor who gives the best care to his patients. I have no complain about the waiting time because all his patients deserve his best attention. Underneath his professional no none sense manners, which might be perceived as being "cold" or "rush", is the willing to listen, identify, and explain problems in order to give the best care. I have a lot of different issues with my feet and so far every issue I’ve seen him for has gotten better. He’s very smart and I feel like he remembers me and all the different areas of my feet that I’ve had problems with. I’ve been to a lot of doctors and have found that some of the ones that act like they care and act friendly/talkative really don’t care/aren’t the best listeners or not clinically strong . One of my past doctors had a really high rating on this site - everyone thought he was so nice but he actually scammed a lot of people and lost his medical license and may go to jail this year. I think Dr. Aronow is nice for not pushing unnecessary procedures on me, being honest with me, and because everything he’s helped me with has gotten better.

I read a few of these reviews about Dr. Aronow, and felt compelled to share. I used to compete in fitness competitions, and dance, and after trusting a podiatrist with my case, I was horrified to learn that my surgery to repair what I thought was some minor wear and tear on my left foot, was completely unsuccessful, and left me in devastating shape, and incredible pain. I spent years letting this doctor try to repair what he did, with no luck. Eventually, after no longer being able to walk, and needing to move back to CT, I was referred to Dr. Aronow while he was still at the UCONN Medical Center as the head of Foot and Ankle Surgery. The Orthopedic Surgeon who saw me for the first second opinion was honest with me and said,"this case is out of my league, I am going to make a personal phone call to the best foot and ankle surgeon in the state". That surgeon was Dr. Aronow. The staff make it VERY clear that Dr. Aronow is a highly sought after Physician, and if you are waiting to see… him for the first time, PREPARE TO WAIT. It states it on your introductory paperwork. My dad and I brought books, and magazines, and snacks. We waited several hours, as Dr. Aronow sees his patients who are post-op or inpatient at the hospital before he sees the less urgent cases. Isn't that the kind of treatment you would want if you just had surgery??? He is not lovey dovey and warm, no, but he is brilliant, and the entire time he is examining you, you see the wheels turning, and know that he is figuring out how to SAVE YOUR FOOT. I would take a qualified surgeon over a care bear any day. He gave me honest and realistic expectations, warned me of the potential risks, and together we came to a care plan that I was comfortable with. Dr. Aronow fused my first MTP joint after removing the damaged joint, and saw me RELIGIOUSLY over the next several weeks to monitor my pain, take x rays of the healing process, and ensure that I was abiding by my after care plan. You DO NOT wait as long in your post op visits as you do in the first consult. Lets be clear on that. He saw me for 2 more reconstructive type surgeries after that first major surgery to get me back to a place where I could live relatively pain free for the rest of my life. I am thankful today for Dr. Aronow, because without his intervention, I am certain that I would not be as active as I am today, and could perhaps have lost part of my foot altogether. Thank you Dr. Aronow if you are reading this, you gave a young woman, with WAY TOO much life left to live, her life back. You were worth the WAIT!!!!!!

I am shocked reading the negative reviews about Dr. Michael Aronow. I sustained a crush injury to my right foot/ankle/master toe/Occupational related. First Ortho Surgeon/Matza/Waterbury butchered me. 6 mos post OP, pain was off the charts...Matza did nothing. Thankfully, I was referred to Dr. Aronow, who worked at Uconn Med Center at the time. Diagnosis: RSD/CRPS...a life sentence for pain. I underwent reconstructive surgery by Dr. Aronow who, sensitive to this freak disease, did a 6 hr pain block. Dr. Michael Aronow actually timed the pain block, and was at my BEDSIDE at Uconn hospital when I woke up. Shocked, his gentle words were: what's your pain level? My response was: pls go home to your family. I remember Dr. Aronow encouraging me to "get ahead of the pain using the morphine pump." Do you have to wait for him in between appointments? Yes, absolutely ... I left his office after 6&7 p.m. several times. That's a small price to pay for seeing the finest… Foot/Ankle Orthopedic surgeon in Connecticut. Dr. Aronow worked with me and took a personal interest in my case, knowing that the RSD/CRPS was horrific. After moving South, I FLEW back to Connecticut to see Dr. Aronow. Yes, I simultaneously treated with Pain Management as well. Fast forward...while I live everyday of my life, at some level in pain, Dr. Aronow reconstructive surgery gave me back lower extremity mobility. Yes, the RSD/CRPS has spread, but that's the nature of this freak disease. I plod on everyday trying to work thru pain issues. I undergo trigger point injections locally now, and actually ride a tricycle on good days. (Dr Matza told me I would never walk again). If you want the finest Orthopedic surgeon in Connecticut, I speak with 15 year authority, it is Dr. Michael Aronow. Stop complaining about the wait time, or go to less qualified Doctors. I am walking proof, that "good things come to those who wait." My sincere thanks, Dr. Aronow, I think of you often with deepest respect. Leslie Blazys-DeMerville

Today was the first time meeting Dr. Aronow and he never introduced himself. He has a very cold bedside manner & I am so disappointed. He was over an hour late seeing me and rushed through the appointment. I will be looking for a more compassionate and caring doctor. I have heard such good things about the Hartford Bone & Joint Institute but I was not impressed with this doctor. The PA (Willie) is good and the office staff is very nice but unfortunately that does not help the experience I had today.

He’s really good at giving injections and has given me advice that has been helpful. My feet have been feeling so much better ??

My appointment was for a simple reading of my Cat scan, but after waiting 3 hours and 15 minutes I decided to leave because it was ridiculous that he had not even checked into our exam room. We mentioned this to the receptionist 3 times and there response was, “he’s running behind as usual”. Since the staff had known he was two hours behind they should have called us to ask if we wanted to reschedule our appointment. Even though we left without seeing the dr. They still got the money they wanted because we were forced to pay in the beginning. Now we are out $40 and a Dr. I don’t recommend him to anyone because this is the second appointment where I’ve had to wait a ridiculously long time for him to saunter in and not even touch my injury.

I have been a patient of Dr. Aronow's since he was at Uconn Health Center. I have had numerous surgeries on my ankle and foot, and would never have as much faith in any other surgeon as I do Dr. Aronow. The wait to see him is no joke, but if you want to see the best of the best, it is worth the wait. His P.A. Willie is also phenomenal. I would trust them with anything. As well as his medical assistants. They go above and beyond. Dr. Aronow knows his specialty, and he knows it well. I would have no hesitation recommending him to anyone.
