both my husband and I have been patients for quite a few years..and never had any problem, other than long waiting room experiences....as Humana pt's. I finally saw him last October, and it had been 2 years since he had seen me, and we were following Humana guidelines seeing Dr. About every 6-8 months, doing the preventative screening......same experience for my husband. All of a sudden, Dr. S. Patel shows up in office, with a nurse practitioner, which was OK, as before that, the AVERAGE wait in office was a minimum of 2 1/2 hours, with no evidence of pt's being seen....no one coming out! Now, when we ask if we will see him with our routine visits, we are told, "only sees Humana pt's.."... Well, we ARE Humana pt's and continue to NOT see him...in fact, he rarely shows up in office. BUT, newspaper advertises that he is accepting new pt's. For almost 2 yrs we were told he was in Philippines, as daughter was dying of cancer, which was terribly sad. But when he returned, still did not see us or any of many other Humana pt's that we knew. Still, no answers from Humana or office staff. We continue to be scheduled with Dr. Patel or his Nurse Practitioner, but neither order the blood work that Dr. Askowitz used to order, and just not same rapport with patients, who really seemed to care about his patients before him leaving for the Philippines. This is not a complaint of care from Dr. Patel and his Nurse Practitioner, as they both seem to be quite good, but do not order our blood work as before, and we, as patients, feel we are being lied to by Humana and these Doctors and office, concerning the REAL REASON Dr. Askowitz is NOT AVAILABLE....... we feel that as he is listed as our PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN, we are entitled to be seen BY HIM, to know what is actually occurring with this doctor. Is he ill, is he turning practice over to someone else, why is it told to us that he is only "seeing Humana pt's".... But not us, and we ARE Humana. . Would greatly appreciate being informed as to what is really happening in this office. Thank you very much..
I've been Dr. Askowitz's patient for well over 10 years now. He and his staff are very courteous, very attentive. A minor inconvenience is a long waiting time at each appointment. They take you in almost immediately, then they put you into one of their tiny examination rooms, where you sit for an hour or sometimes more than that, and there are even no magazines to read. So you've got to be patient and take your smartphone, or a book, or something to keep you occupied with you. Also, in the past I was unhappy that this doctor was reluctant to send me for an examination to a specialist, when I had a specific problem, such as a prostate problem. This has been resolved to my satisfaction, so now I really have no complaints.
They take you in almost immediately, take your weight and blood pressure and then you wait and wait and wait, most often more than an hour in a tiny doctor'soffice room with nothing to read, nothing to do. On the other hand, Dr. Askowitz is attentive, spends some time with apatient, explains everything, such as test results in detail. Avoids referring to specialists, or any important tests, until a medical problem occurs.
The Doctor visits his elderly patients in the middle of the night so that he doesn't run into any family members. He refuses to call family members back so we are totally reliant on the hospital personnel for information !TERRIBLE
