Dr. Michael Chunfai Cheung, MD

Dr. Cheung was initially recommended to me by my oncologic surgeon, and after consulting with several plastic surgeons, I ultimately chose him because of the strong recommendations and reputation. Unfortunately, my reconstruction became complicated by infection, seroma, and skin necrosis. I understand now that these complications can happen in breast reconstruction, even with experienced surgeons, but at the time I was terrified and felt very vulnerable after already going through cancer treatment. When I was told my expander needed to be removed, I returned to the office and realized the procedure was planned to be done there rather than in a hospital setting. I panicked. After everything that had happened, I no longer felt comfortable proceeding outside of a hospital and asked multiple times if it could be done there. I was told that was not an option. As the infection worsened over the following days, I contacted several other surgeons. Most did not want to take over another… surgeon’s case, but eventually another doctor agreed to help me and removed the expander in the hospital. That decision made me feel much safer emotionally and physically during an extremely difficult time. To be fair, Dr. Cheung did offer immediate implant reconstruction revision and was honest with me about the increased failure risk after infection. I appreciate that honesty. However, by that point, I had lost confidence and no longer felt emotionally supported in my care. I was also told my anxiety was contributing to the situation, which may have been true — but after a cancer diagnosis and serious infection, my fear felt understandable. I am sharing my experience not to attack anyone, but because I think communication, compassion, and making patients feel safe are incredibly important in cancer reconstruction. A surgeon may have many excellent reviews and still not be the right fit for every patient. Right now I am struggling emotionally with how I look after losing my reconstruction, and this entire experience has been very painful. I simply hope future patients feel fully informed, heard, and supported throughout their journey.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have a double mastectomy 6 months ago. Dr Cheung performed my reconstruction and I am thrilled with the results! My scars are barely visible and it looks more like I had a breast lift! He and his staff were so kind and so professional! They made me feel safe and comfortable throughout the entire experience! Best surgeon I ever met. Great bed side manner, caring and knowledgeable. He truly cares about his patients. 3 years ago, I had a breast reduction with another surgeon. That surgeon left a needle in my breast. I went to Dr Cheung scared, skeptical and full of anxiety. He reassured me and made me feel comfortable. The day of the surgery he spoke with me to make sure I was okay and texted me there after to ensure I was okay. If you want the red glove treatment, he is your surgeon. I’m glad I found him. Now my daughter is going to get some work done. So grateful I found him.

Had my nose done with Dr Cheung. He did an excellent job with my tip rhinoplasty. My results are incredible. My nose looks so natural and like it was the nose I was always meant to have. Thank you Dr Cheung!

Dr. Cheung performed my thigh lift and he did a superb job. He listened to me and went over several options for what I wanted as I also had inner thigh skin damage from steroid creams. I am completely satisfied with the work done, his staff, his personal care and concern and the fact that he gave me his cell number and would always reply in a timely manor. I had a botched liposuction with CRS. In my follow up appts, Dr Cheung was perplexed at the results and never offered to properly correct it. I also never had a post op picture done. He suggest that the fat may have come back (in three months) which is absolutely ridiculous. The belly is completely uneven with one side being fuller than the other and the lower belly was left with a pouch. I went to three other surgeons for a second opinion and all said it was done incorrectly. One told me I should demand a refund. I am now having to pay for a 2nd surgery with another physician. This has caused me a great deal of financial and emotional stress. I would advise to go somewhere else.

Dr. Cheung is hands down the most amazing surgeon! I was feeling self conscious about my body post-baby. I didn't feel comfortable wearing bikinis or certain items of clothing. My consultation at his office was everything I could've asked for. He not only took the time to explain all my different options (lipo, tummy tuck, etc.), but was honest in explaining to me what procedure would work best for my body. His bedside manners were very sweet and sincere pre-op and post-op. I'm recommending ALL my friends to him! If you need any procedure done, go see Dr. Cheung!
