Dr. Michael S Cannella, MD

I have seen Dr. Cannella for 22 years. The first psychiatrist I saw for 3 years was a sexual harasser who has complaints filed against him. Due to that bad experience, I do not trust mental health practitioners. I knew I needed meds and my regular MD of 15 years gave me the same meds I was for a while. After researching very deeply into psychiatrists. I guess I got lucky and found Dr. Cannella and saw him 2x a month for 22 years. During that time he was only less than late a handful of times. Unfortunately, I found out today that he is retiring. While I would never go to a male doctor again at least I was fortunate to meet him.

I was on long term lithium treatment for 25 years. Walked into his office every three months since 2007 asked how is your mood and given a prescription. Levels were taken every three months. Unfortunately dr cannella failed to recognize my kidneys were shutting down. Did not realize my severe back pain and anemia were signs of kidney damage.i never discussed my ongoing thyroid issues, loss of teeth from severe dry mouth and weight gain led to sleep apnea. Dr cannella had me stop lithium a bit too late and during a life crisis. I was laid off during stopping lithium lost health coverage before another treatment option could be found. Facing major health problems with limited resources amd no job. Dr cannella is a nice man but be aware of your health and question your treatment options. Dont allow yourself to be treated without therapy and take pills without communicating your fears.

Dr. Cannella is an excellent psychiatrist. I have seen several doctors over the last 20 years, and he is someone who is patient centered. He is generally on-time, and always ready to listen with compassion. Good advise is offered, without the feeling of someone being "pushy". Very knowledgeable!

Dr. Cannella is a terrific Dr. He's compassionate, on time, not a pill pusher, and an excellent Psychiatrist!!!!

Dr Cannella has been my Dr for over 20years. He has saved my life. I'm so happy to have such a well informed, kind, caring, n great Dr.!

Dr. Canella is a compassionate and caring doctor. He is very attentive; a very good listener and always lends a sense ear.

Overall a very good doctor. Good diagnosis, will try different medications if needed. Doesn't get to the pharmacy to refill prescriptions as fast as he needs to however and sometimes you almost run out of your medications.

Thoughtful, gentle psychiatrist. Clearly very compassionate.

Dr. Cannella is excellent. They are short staffed and need more help.
