- Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism
An endocrinologist is a physician with extensive training in understanding, diagnosing and treating conditions related to the endocrine system. The endocrine system regulates the balance of hormones.
Conditions of the endocrine system involve an over-abundance, or deficiency of a certain hormone. While there is a range when it comes to the amount of a hormone that is deemed normal in a human, these specialists determine whether a person's amount of hormone is indicative of a health concern. Two conditions this specialist might treat are diabetes and obesity.
- Internal Medicine
An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.
In addition to treating the common cold and flu, internists also treat chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

I started seeing Dr Kaplan in 2008 after 16 other Endo's kept on with the same formula of helping my underactive thyroid. NONE of them were able to regulate me. Dr Kaplan tried a different drug Levoxyl and suddenly and very miraculously my TSH, T3 and T4 were finally normal after 22 years. Then Levoxyl went off the market and Dr Kaplan put me on Tirosint - it's been a harder transition but he keeps trying to help regulate me. During this time, my insurance changed and Dr Kaplan has been VERY willing to work with me to lessen the costs. Dr. Kaplan made seem abrasive - he's not, he really does care about his patients. He is very straight and to the point....
Dr. Kaplan is extremely knowledgeable in the area of thyroid disease. He is very business-like and to the point - very professional. He is not the chit-chatty kind of doctor some are, but I always feel like I am in very capable hands. He always follows up with a detailed letter sent home detailing the office visit and any blood work results and next steps. Highly recommend.
