Dr. Ming Xu has the following 2 specialties
A psychiatrist is a doctor with specific training in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.
He or she can not only provide the counseling necessary to both diagnose and treat a patient, but can also prescribe medication when needed. In some cases, a psychiatrist will only provide the medication and the counseling will be provided by another healthcare specialist, like a certified counselor or psychologist.
Like other doctors, psychiatrists employ diagnostic tools like CT scans and MRI in order to observe the structure and function of a patient's brain.
Once a diagnosis is made, these specialists may use behavior or cognitive therapy in order to address the patient's condition, or a multitude of other types of therapy, in conjunction with or in place of medication.
A neurologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats disorders of the nervous system which is comprised of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. These doctors do not perform surgery, but refer patients to neurological surgeons when they determine that surgical intervention is necessary.
Some of the conditions that neurologists diagnose and treat are epilepsy, aneurysms, hydrocephalus, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal disc herniation, and spinal disease.
In addition to using diagnostic tests like MRI, CT scans, EEG and EMG, neurologists also employ neurological testing to gauge muscle strength and movement, balance, reflexes, sensation, memory, speech, and other cognitive abilities.

I have been to Dr Xu in the past for major depression and decided at that time I would never go back. The wait times are horrible. Dr. Xu is only interested in prescribing medication and getting you out the door. Out of desperation I went back again in need of a medication change. He never even looked at me. He typed on his computer, and prescribed the most current anti-depression medicine on the market. I wasn't in his office but 10 minutes after an hours wait. He is uncaring and cold. I couldn't afford the medicine anyway.
On not less than four occasion's I have been scheduled for an appointment with Dr. Ming Xu of Presence St. Mary's Hospital Behavioral Health only to find a waiting room full of patients seemingly scheduled for the same appointment time as my own resulting in the inability for me to to see my clients at scheduled appointment times to the damage of my clients and my practice of law. This physician, when one eventually is granted an audience with him seemingly at whim, does not practice any traditional methods commonly used in the field of psychiatry for the treatment of behavioral health conditions. Rather, it has been my experience that he operates a practice limited to the prescribing of drugs, thriving on his patients' requirement to return to see him for the reason that he requires the same in order to continue his patients on the medications whether or not they seem to be therapeutic.
I have been taking my son to see Dr. Xu since he was 10 for his ADHD. My son is 18 now and still sees him. Dr. Xu still monitors my son on a regular basis. My son likes Dr. Xu and feels very comfortable with him. I like Dr Xu so much that I recommend both my sisters to him and they are both now being treated by him as well. When I started to feel depressed I started to see a doctor that was closer to where I live. I wasn't getting better and did not feel comfortable with him. I made the decision to forget about the longer drive to see a doctor I knew was great. I am so happy that I did. Dr. Xu has always made me feel comfortable. He understood my needs. He listens to everything you have to say and gives his undecided attention. He is extremely compassionate and want to help his patients get better. The beginning of every appointment he greets his patient with a pleasant smile and welcomes them with open arms. He begins by asking, " how are you feeling". During some of my visits, I have sat and cried. He has always been patient with me. Not only was I mentally ill, I was physically ill. He looked at the list of doctors I was seeing and suggested I look for better ones. I took his advice and my health is getting better. He is extremely cautious about medicating his patience but does understand that depression is real. Their is no, "magic pill" to fix depression but he does give you the tools of his wisdom and knowledge and expresses that it does get better. I always feel great after seeing him. He reminds me if I am ever in need to please call. His office staff is just as wonderful. They are ALWAYS friendly and helpful. They also understand that his patients all have different needs. They are also professionals at what they do. I have continued to recommend Dr. Ming Xu to others and I will continue to do so. When I first came to him, I was depressed and in a dark place, feeling alone, crazy and helpless. After seeing Dr. Xu, I'm not that person anymore. I will never see another pshyciotris except him. I strongly recommend anyone that is suffering to see the Amazing Dr. Xu. He really is the BEST
