Dr. Nancy Barrett Mathews, MD

I found Dr. Mathews back in 1997 when I was pregnant, she was amazing. After I had my son I had some concerns during every yearly checkup. I always wondered if I had PCOS. Thinning hair, heavy/irregular periods, extra hair in places a girl shouldn't have hair, pre-diabetic, and weight gain. I was dismissed every year without her checking. At most it was a blood draw to check my hormone levels. I was young and figured my doctor knew best. I finally switched doctors last year due to her availability. She can be hard to get into for your yearly check ups, which I understand. I saw my new doctor and he did an ultrasound and went through my concerns about maybe having PCOS, and I indeed did have PCOS, the ultrasound showed the follicals/cysts. I never had an ultrasound done with Dr. Mathews, which leaves me saddened actually. I can't say for certain I had PCOS back when I started to question it years ago but I do feel as if my concerns were not properly addressed by Dr. Mathews,… which leaves me a little resentful to be honest. The better news is a year after my diagnoses I am down 61 pounds because I now know what is going on and how to adjust my diet to work with my body. I would still recommend her though. She has a great disposition, was great during my pregnancy and overall good after. I just wish maybe more concern/follow up would have been given when I voiced concerns over the possibility of having PCOS. I didn't know having an ultrasound was an option to help diagnose is.

Dr. Mathews cared for me during my third pregnancy. She is kind, caring, honest, helpful, available, and AWESOME! I have moved too far away to continue to have her as my physician. I would recommend her to anyone looking for an OB/GYN.
