Dr. Natalie E. Azar, MD

Dr. Azar is nice enough but she always seems rushed and likely won't spend the time NYU is going to bill your insurance for, which should't be legal but they get away with it. My last in-person visit involved zero physical exam other than BP. So... for a supposed hour appointment she'll spend about 20-30 minutes and a regular follow up... about 5-15. If you have a complex case, she won't have the time to help nor will she be interested in trying. A while back I asked if she could look at prior test results and she said that she didn't have time. Hahaha. Okay then. I would blame NYU as a whole, because I've had other NYU doctors who also rush in and out (one spent a total of 3 minutes with me - NO exaggeration - and then they billed for a full hour). HOWEVER, this isn't a culture-wide issue as I have a great neurologist at NYU who spends a full hour with me EVERY TIME. You may say, so what, time spent doesn't equal good care. I disagree as they won't get a full picture otherwise. I… really tried to give her a chance but in the end I found her fairly dismissive of my complaints/issues.

The positive reviews are fake. Natalie was openly condescending and callous during our appointment. She even literally laughed at me when I started to describe my symptoms. She leaves 80% of my MyChart messages unread (and I only send them when I have an important question) and when she does reply it's usually with a message like "sorry idk". I've never had a doctor be this openly rude and cruel to me.

horrible. if you want a doctor that gives you any attention at all this is not her. She is rude and unavailable. She is very available as an online figure if all you want to do is literally see her do everything but put time into your case...

Dr. Azar was a breath of fresh air. After having a terrible experience with another rheumatologist on Long Island Dr Azar took her time, listened, showed true concern and made me feel assured. The office staff was lovely, my appointment was actually taken earlier. Would definitely recommend!

I had a great experience with Dr. Azar. I came late to my appointment (train delays) and she still squeezed me in. She told me the appointment couldn't be thorough, understandably, because of coming late...but she spent a full 30-45 minutes asking me questions and listening (idk what thorough is to her but that was def a thorough appointment). She didn't rush me at all. I told her I have depression and she listened and asked if I wanted to talk about it. She was very kind and as others stated, had great bedside manners. We communicated through email for 2 weeks after my appointment, to discuss my test results (doctors don't get paid to answer emails btw). She diagnosed me with ME/CFS which isn't covered by (most) insurances and she told me she would forward my test results to the ME/CFS doctor (to help me save money on bloodwork). Fast forward a year, I didn't see the ME/CFS doctor because it was too costly (I'm a student) but will be seeing the ME/CFS doctor in the coming future. I… emailed Dr. Azar asking if I would need to come in again to redo my bloodwork to have them sent to the ME/CFS doctor, and she said no need; she will forward them from our last visit. I think if she wanted my money she would've asked me to book an appointment again, pay a copay, etc. But she clearly cares for me and wants me to save money. I think she is a great doctor and I really appreciate her kindness towards me. I went to different doctors before her, for many years, about my excessive fatigue...just to be shrugged off again and again. But I knew there was something wrong with my body and Dr. Azar didn't dismiss my feelings or pain. Now I finally have a diagnosis.

The most unsympathetic rude doctor you will ever meet. She never returns calls, and is only seeking to exploit your insurance company by prescribing very risky treatments or meds. She is inaccessible and refuses to speak to patients on the phone, as her receptionist states that patients must schedule an appt to talk to her, since she wouldnt be able to give "free" advice over the phone.

She is amazing. Her bedside manner is such that you would never guess that she probably has another patient to see that day. She explains everything to you in great detail, and you can tell that she loves her job. And this might be stating the obvious, but she is VERY VERY smart.

I have been going to Dr. Azar for 2years now and she is a very good physician. She has always been caring and considerate to my needs. She is in the office 3 days a week and when she is not my calls are always returned in a timely fashion. Her staff has always been very helpful to me in the office and on the phone, a group of very sweet girls. I highly recommend her!

i have SLE and Dr. Azar has bene my rheumatologist for over 5 years. I have been to many in my days, and she is by far the best and i plan on sticking with her for as long as she is practicing! she is always there to answer questions, very personable and extremely smart. she thought of ways to help me that others had not. i'd be at a loss without her.
