Dr. Newton Perkins Allen, MD

I’m beyond grateful to of found such a great doctor! He is very thorough and spends a great deal of time not only treating me medically, but also on a personal level. This has made for a more comfortable patient/doctor relationship - In the past I have found myself holding back when seeing other doctors but that’s not the case with Dr. Allen. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of choosing Dr. Allen as my PCP.

I finally found a doctor after moving here a couple of years ago and was looking forward to seeing someone who appeared to be a great doctor. Dr. Allen is extremely condescending when you try to explain what is bothering you and cares more about talking about himself than helping you. He was answering text messages during my appointment, and when showing me an weight management app (one I already told him I had) he proceeded to take the time to enter everything he had eaten and/or done that day while I sat and waited for him to finish. I took my lunch break to go get a quick check up/physical and ended up being away from the office for almost 3 hours. When I said I was suffering from moderate depression ( telling him I know it's because I'm just stressed about a few things right now) he immediately prescribed me anti-depressants but didn't tell me what it was he was prescribing me until I finally stopped him after the 3rd time of him saying "we will up your dosage next time you come… in" to ask him "what are you prescribing me?"..." oh its just like a pick me up.. kind of..its an anti-depressant." I chose not to take them. To top it off when I finally got my blood work results back I noticed they had my wrong personal information including my birthday wrong. Needless to say I am back on the hunt for a new doctor, and I am extremely disappointed with my experience with someone who appeared to have good reviews.

I'm a new patient of Dr Allen. He listens to about half a sentence then shuts you off. I only went to him because he accepts my insurance. Three weeks ago he did blood work told me the results would show up on my email... Hasn't to this date.. Called in asked nurse to call no return call that was two weeks ago. Made an appointment to see a nurse for a TB test... Made the appointment... Got there on time... Waited hour and 15 minutes got up and walked out...my last visit to this provider

I was a patient of Dr. Allen for a lot of years and always thought he was a good doctor. Then, I started feeling very bad and I saw him several times - each time telling him what I was noticing about my body. I told him my friends were worried about me. I had another doctor contact him. Still, he would not listen to my complaints. Finally, I faxed him a list of the symptoms and told him what tests I wanted him to run. After more than a week, his nurse finally contacted me to make the appointment. Less than 48 hours later, he called me and told me we had a diagnosis...on of the things I told him to check. Two or three appointments later, I asked him why he hadn't listened to me when I started complaining. His answer was that I always told him so much that he didn't know what to listen to. I later told this story in another doctor's office and the nurse said that I was NOT the first patient from whom she had heard a similar story about Dr. Newton P. Allen, Jr. I am no longer… his patient.

I have been seeing Doc for nearly 12 years now. He is a very intelligent physician. He answers all my questions so that it is understandable for me to explain to my concerned family and friends. Although I do have to wait 10-20 minutes past my appointment time, he does spend a great deal of time in the room assuring he has answered his plan of care for me and answering any questions I may have. I see this is why he may run over, he spends quality time with us patients. He is very personable and is a family man. I enjoy hearing about his kids and home life. Makes for a great bond. As for his staff, very friendly. Easy to carry conversations with. I feel very comfortable when I go see doc. Overall, I couldn't ask for a better doctor.

Doc Allen has been my primary physican for 23 years. He could have been better or more respectful. He always talks with me and ensures that he get all my medical requirements completed. Thanks to Doc Allen, my medical conditions are improving.

Dr Allen has been my internist for over 20 years. However, I do not feel that he has paid adequate attention to my complaints about how I feel during the last 4-8 months. It seems that he has forgotten how in tune to my body I can be and that he is not taking me seriously. He has not returned my phone calls, responded to my faxes, reacted to my requests that he look for any answer to my condition other than the obvious. When I complain now about possible reactions to a medication he prescribed, his response has been, "Add this pill to the pile and come back in 4 weeks." THIS IS NOT SATISFACTORY...however it is a new development. I am very frustrated and I wonder if this is the end of the line for our relationship.

Unprofessional. He used profane language. Did not address major complaint and disregarded request.

Dr. Allen has been my doctor for about 20 years. Dr. Allen and his staff treat me as though they really care about my well being. I am very comfortable with them and have no desire to find and Doctor.
