Dr. Odell Joseph Dean JR., MD

I was a patient of Dr Dean at Ochsner, and I would probably be dead, or on dialysis if it weren't for him. I see allot of comments referring to his demenor,I prefer a doctor who as confident being his self with his patients like family as long i know he knows what he is talking about. For me I will forever be grateful for his swift action in saving my life and me from dialysis. He is a knowledgeable and a precise doctor. 2 stents and a surgery all under his care but I still have my kidney. Other doctors over looked the issues that lead to me being in the ER that lead into his care. I'll never forget he told any other doctor he would've have second guess "my kidney would've ended up in a bucket." To shock a doctor with ur condition is one thing but his hast response I will never forgot and always be grateful for. Thank you Dr Dean for your service

Very low opinion of this doctor. He treated my young adult daughter for a kidney stone. This was a 3mm stone, he insisted on putting in a ureteral stent before sending her home from the hospital. When he told us to make a follow up appointment, I informed him that our insurance was not accepted at his practice as I found this out a couple months prior when I was to follow up with his partner for a kidney stone. He said that well, he could independently choose to if he wanted. I believed him. Costly mistake. We had to pay a lot out of pocket for that. Ended up following up with another urologist who was great. He treated my daughter very well and in the way I expected the treatment for a 3mm stone in the first place. Everyone in our family has had them and I am a nurse. I know a little about kidney stones and how they are usually treated. This incident was 7 months ago, still paying a bill from this unnecessary procedure.

He seems very knowledgeable, but lacked faith in my own assessment saying I'm looking for a diagnosis. I believe the entire reason a patient goes to the doctor is in search of a diagnosis to the problem they are having. I thought a patients initial assessment of symptoms were used to help guide doctors in their testings, not to be ridiculed.

I have known Dr Dean for approximately eight years. I was very disappointed when I heard that he was leaving the Baton Rouge area. He is an excellent doctor, a great humanitarian.

I would not recommend this physician. He has a very nasty attitude and demeanor. He asked inappropriate questions and made me feel very uncomfortable. I am usually in a pleasant mood but this man made my blood boil.

After waiting to see Dr. Odell Joseph Dean, Jr for 3.5 hours, he came into the room with a very arrogant attitude. I felt sexually harassed from the moment he started with vulgar details that could have been explained in a much better manner. I think he was disappointed that it wasn't my husband he was seeing for that visit. He seemed to get really into all the explanations with very sexually graphic details. This seemed to be very pleasurable to him and seemed to highly excite him, way too much for just an overactive bladder diagnosis. I recommend no one see him and be put through this terribly horrific game he plays.

Dr. Dean is very compassionate and concerned about the patient's understanding of his diagnosis. He even wrote his findings down on my note pad so I could take it home for her to read

What a wonderful and caring physician. I saw him in Baton Rouge for a recurrent problem. He was my 4th urologist and the only one that got me back on track. Great bedside manner. I can't say enough!!

Very thorough, took time to explain my problem and treatment options, and really cares. Even impressed my daughter, and that's never happened before. He's an excellent, superior physician!

Amazing doctor who truly cares about his patients. He made me feel so much better. Best doctor in town!
