Dr. Paul Jeffrey Gisi, MD

I came to Dr. Gisi for a second opinion for surgical needs and stayed with him. Dr. Gisi, his office and surgical team at Methodist are excellent! I'm mended, healthy and feeling grateful for the outstanding care I received.

He did an excellent job. I am sure that no two cases are alike but he must be an excellent surgeon. He performed a laparoscopic hysterectomy and was able to not damage my bladder despite the fact that it was stuck to my uterus. He was also talented in working around scar tissue from my previous 3 c sections. The CNA in the hospital even mentioned that he is very good at not damaging bladder during surgery. She said that she has heard a lot of patients who are very happy with his surgery results.

I felt Dr. Gisi was kind at first. I see the good in everyone I meet. He did not spend much time with me or explain his thought for plans for what he would like to do. Coming from a health care background, I made the mistake of just trusting the provider and not over thinking the situation. I was 38 years old and did not plan on any more children. After years of horrible cramping and menstrual bleeding I decided to try and find a solution other than birth control. They were unable to complete a vaginal ultra sound to find the exact issues for the problems. Dr. Gisi suggested we just do a hysterectomy. I was unclear why we would do a Laparoscopic hysterectomy when there was no visual really about what the issue was but I let my trust in the doctor blind my decision and away we went. Expecting to wake up from a same day surgery, I was informed my uterus had been intertwined to my bladder with scar tissue from 2 prior C-sections. When attempting to remove the uterus my bladder came… with it. I had emergency bladder repair surgery which resulted in a catheter for a month, kidney stents for 6 weeks. The kidneys stents ended up with complication and had to have a procedure to remove one of those. Working in health care, I understand THINGS HAPPEN. But after speaking the urologist who was PHENOMENAL, and explained the length of time I would have the catheter and stents, Dr. Gisi came in and told me they would be in, in about 4 days to remove it!! COMPLETELY WRONG. When I informed him he was incorrect, he didn't even seem to care. Not to mention at my follow ups, I did not feel he had any compassion that I was a single mother who was missing out on soccer season for one child and football season for another, while off work with no income due to his error. It has been a year, and I have fully recovered physically. I can say, I have not healed emotionally from the ordeal.

Horrible birthing experience. I have had 4 labors, 2 of them even ended with emergency c-section but were still overall pleasant experiences compared to my last birthing experience with Dr. Gisi. I had a birth plan that my planned provider and I had discussed and were both happy with. Unfortunately, I went into labor early and got stuck with Gisi who was not interested in hearing about our plan. I ended up with a severe contact dermatitis and a belly full of blisters because he chose to ignore my allergy to adhesive. He was extremely rough during surgery and the recovery with this 4th c-section was the worst one of all. I have since heard from other women/patients how he was arrogant and treated them with disrespect. I am a doctor myself and I understand that patient satisfaction is the lifeblood to my practice. Unfortunately, it seems as though Dr. Gisi does not have much concern or care for patient satisfaction. He has poor listening and communication skills which are so… essential in his field as an OB. I would not recommend Dr. Gisi to anyone.

I believe he has the best interest of the patient in the forefront of hs care plan. He is very patient orientated. Not c-section driven.
