Dr. Paul Mecherikunnel is a phenomenal doctor we were lucky to find and I recommend him in the highest possible terms. Dr. Mecherikunnel is the type of doctor everyone should be lucky enough to have--brilliant, thoughtful, compassionate, a good listener, and focused on healing his patients rather than padding bills with unnecessary procedures. We found Dr. Mecherikunnel almost by accident. My husband was admitted to the emergency room for a hand injury, and a plastic surgeon (Dr. X) was the ER doctor on call. Dr. X discharged my husband with antibiotics and was told to watch and wait. We went to a follow up appointment with Dr. X almost a week later, and with no diagnostics or work up Dr. X said my husband needed surgery (his practice accepted no insurance so we'd be left to figure out how to pay for it). We wanted a second opinion, so started calling doctors covered by our insurance. Dr. Mecherikunnel was able to see my husband the same day, took time to do a thorough work up… (which Dr. X had never done), explained why the surgery Dr. X proposed didn't make any sense, described the type of imaging he wanted done, provided a referral for the person he wanted to do it, and said he'd review the imagining as soon as it came in. He also proposed a number of low tech solutions that we could do at home that made an immediate positive difference. The thorough imaging recommended by Dr. Mecherikunnel showed that my husband didn't need surgery at all. I'm honestly so grateful to have found Dr. Mecherikunnel. If you are looking for a doctor who is knowledgeable, compassionate, and committed to your best interests, look no further.

Dr. Mecherikunnel was very easy to make an appointment with. His office is in a less appealing part of town, which initially put us off. But after our appointment, we felt much more positive about him. He spent a lot of time discussing my condition and what my options were with surgery. He was very patient in answering all my questions, and was very personable in chatting about other shared interests we had. He seemed to be very knowledgable and experienced in performing the procedure I was considering.
