Dr. Paul Mitchell Spector, DO

Seeks a bipolar diagnosis on all who pay the price--unfortunately "dime store" diagnoses don't work.

This go around with Dr. Paul Spector is wonderful! He sees me and hears me. I am feeling better already and know he is doing for me what other doctors haven't in the past. I am thankful for him!!!

I was undiagnosed Bipolar and started self-medicating with alcohol at age 14. I had 2 years sobriety when I was 30, then picked up a drink and had a 12 year relapse. I had two gran meal seizures from self detoxing both and almost had to be resuscitated. Then , one month sober, I saw Dr. Spector at the urging of my brother who’d Ben under his care for addiction. He did a family history and in hindsight my mother was severely bi-polar. My father was an alcoholic as well. Dr. Spector is a geniius at balancing medications. He doesn’t believe in “one size fits all”. My bipolar is no longer an issue, which has made it much easier to maintain my sobriety. I am now 14 years sober and honestly believe I could not have managed this without Dr. Spector (and A.A.??). He truly is s life saver. He’s also one of the smartest and kindest human beings I’ve met.

The wait time and promptness is a catch 22 because the reason Dr. Spector takes so long getting to you is because he really takes his time and actually LISTENS to his patients. It's a trade-off.....spending his time listening to and thoroughly understanding you as a person vs. rusing your care and treatment. TOTALLY worth it. Just pack a lunch....lol

Be forewarned Dr Spector does not participate with any insurance. You will pay cash up front & need to submit to your own insurance as an out of network claim. Also plan to spend a minimum of 4 hours at his office. However, he takes all the time with his patients that they need. He listens & does a thorough exam. He always follows up when a patient calls. He is down to earth & personable. He looks for the source of the problem rather than ignoring or assuming anything about his patients. He is worth the expense and the wait.

The wait is totally worth it, and the staff is great about telling you when he's running late and when you should come in b/c of lateness. You do not have to sit in his office and wait for hours on end if you just call ahead. Once you're in the room w/Dr. Spector you become the only patient he has. Best Doc I've ever seen!!

Dr. Spector changes and turns your life around. He is excellent with Medicine knowledge and is an expert in this field. I have been seeing him for 16 years, been seen by other Doctors, and no one else comes close to his knowledge and diagnosis skills. I highly recommend him to anyone with addiction and pain problems.

It has been some time since my last opinion post. As stated I have been seeing Dr Spector for several years now and I can honestly say he has saved my life. Due to unbeleivable pain from a double broken neck, total broken and 100% dislocated shoulder/arm, broken hip, broken lower spine (L5/S1) and both knees broken from a on-duty injury at work I attempted suicide twice after 10 operations. I had already been through 2 pain doctors that had me so "druged" up I could not function. Life was not worth living. Then I met Dr Spector and everything changed. He cleaned me up and I now take med's to control pain but not put me in a fog 24/7. Then in Feb 09 I moved. My W/C insurance advised me before I moved that they were fine with me still seeing Dr Spector every 3 months and they would pay the mileage. After my first visit after my move they did just that, paid the bills and my mileage, then I got a letter telling me from now on they would not and I have to find a new doctor. They… gave me a choice of 3 General Pract. Doctors! I filed a complaint with the W/C Commission and now I have a Board Hearing. I do not want to stop seeing Dr Spector, he has helped me so much and I'm afraid of going back to what I was before. If I do I won't live through it, I know it!

After a extremely bad injury at work 15 yrs ago I spent the first 3 yrs in the hospital and have gone through 10 surgeries to actually rebuild me. I have been under 2 previous pain doctors and with little help I attempted to take my life twice. Know with Dr Spector and under the correct med's and treatment I am better than I was but not not curied and never will be. But I no longer think of ending my life.
