Dr. Paymohn Mahdavi graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Economics. After spending five years in the world of business as an analyst and then consultant specializing in the field of prototype development and robotics, Dr. Mahdavi pursued his true passion, medicine.
Dr. Mahdavi earned his medical degree from Loma Linda University where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He then went on to complete his Ophthalmology residency at New York Medical College where he also served as Chief Resident. After completing his residency, Dr. Mahdavi then furthered his education by completing a Fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal surgery at the National Retina Institute.
Dr. Mahdavi spent two years in California providing retina care, treatment, and surgery to patients in a large private practice. Dr. Mahdavi has participated in numerous clinical trials involving the latest retinal treatments and novel procedures.
After spending two years in California, Dr. Mahdavi has decided to return to Maryland driven by his love for the community and eagerness to serve the patient population he worked with while a Fellow at The National Retina Institute. He is looking forward to working within the community, providing his retina expertise, and bringing the latest clinical trials to the patients at NRI.
Dr. Mahdavi is board certified in Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, and the American Society of Retinal Surgeons. He has presented his research at the Academy, ASRS and ARVO. Dr. Mahdavi is fluent in English, Farsi, and Spanish. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis, golf and weightlifting.
