Dr. Pegah Afra

I can’t say enough about how thorough and caring this doctor is. She examines all possibilities and connections to my specific condition. She told me about possible side effects from medication previous doctors had not even touched on. This is obviously a person who got into the medical profession for all the right reasons.

Dr Afrah not only is thorough as any Dr could be. She has a wonderful bedside manner.

I don’t know if neuros run into a ton of people faking seizures, but I had a seizure that almost cracked my skull and Afra said she couldn’t acknowledge it as a seizure without an EEG. Not a first, EEG, mind you... I have epilepsy- since birth and have constant epileptiform waves. She has no ability to break from protocol and just be like “OK you probably had a seizure, let’s get you set up with an EEG to see if you’re still breaking through.” She is a guilty until proven innocent person and made me feel like I was being unreasonable and crazy.

Dr. Afra is fine if all you need is prescriptions and a VEEG, but she isn't up to the task of working on tough cases- at least not in the case of my Epilepsy. She's nice and means well- just have to move on and find someone who has more time or bandwidth.

Dr. Afra is an example for all doctors. She takes all the time I need to work through and figure out issues related to my epilepsy. She saw me for an hour during my last appointment. She is kind, thorough, respectful, and recognizes that each epilepsy patient is different. I’ve never had a neurologist this amazing and I’ve had epilepsy my entire life. Dr. Afra is a godsend and I hope she never leaves New York! I need her!

The team at the university of utah treat you like a person. Dr. Afra went over everything with my wife and I'm 1 step at a time so we could understand what was going on. I still have them every now and then but my seizures are under control with the help of surgery and medication

This doctor would never return phone calls or communicate with us about what is going on!!! She treated us like we were stupid and gave us no help at all! I would not recommend her to anyone because she is such a poor doctor. We went to her for 4 years and she never helped us or figured out what is going on!

Dr. Afra is THE most attentive doctor I have ever had. I had a video EEG and she came to see me every day in the hospital. She pushed for me to get a VNS and while the surgeon was skeptical, she put together a file of evidence to push for the VNS stimulator. She is the best doctor I have ever had, and the hardest working doctor I have ever seen. While her bills are not cheap, I will pay every penny to receive her care and time. She deserves everything she earns.
