I found the entire process at the Mayo to be second to none! Dr. Kouloumberis was "exceptional in every way." I had been to two other orthopedic surgeon in the Seattle area for diagnoses which I did not feel comfortable with. I processed a request for the Mayo Clinic Phoenix, AZ to check me out and was very pleased to be accepted for the physical work up and exam with Dr. Kouloumberis. This entire process took only three weeks. Her interview and examination was remarkable with regards to her personnel interest in my medical situation and diagnosis. My concern was finding a doctor that initially would attempt to resolve my situation using minimally invasive surgical techniques which indeed Dr. Kouloumberis uses in all possible surgeries. The decompression of L-4 and L-5 (aka; Laminectomy) took two hours with a two hour recovery room process. I was released from the hospital before noon the same day. With drugs I was able to climb into the vehicle and ride 80 miles to our… residence. Six days after surgery, the incision is healed and the pain level is minimal if at all. Drugs for pain were require only a couple days for pre-bed time use to get a nights sleep. I was "fully ambulatory" on my feet ever since surgery. I do believe that this procedure has solved the lower extremity pain and paralysis. Dr. Kouloumberis is a (5) star neurosurgeon and if you have neck, back or spinal issues she is second to none in resolving your issue.
