Dr. Peter Benet, MD

Seek better care than this Peter Benet abandoned my son while he was in crisis; ended up in ICU and ventilated. He was very much near death. I called to cancel the 10:30 am appointment at 10:00 am while the police and EMT's were doing their work to revive my son. The response from Benet's staff was "We don't want to see him anymore because he cancels appointments." There was no interest in his crisis. Reminder, this is a psychiatric practice. My son survived despite the absence of psychiatric care by Dr. Benet and his office. I've considered filing a complaint with the state (it wouldn't be his first) but, out of respect to the stage of his career, I assume he's a short-term threat. If you want drugs, go see Dr. Benet. the diagnosis and prescription was <15 min. Don't depend on actual care though. Real doctors immediately stopped one med and prescribed a different, more therapeutic regimen.

I would absolutely recommend Dr Bennett to anyone needing help. I have been with him for a few years now. However, the receptionist could use an attitude adjustment. When she has a bad day, everyone feels it. Very snippy, even when not warranted. Unfortunately, I almost did not give this doctor a chance because of this reason. As I have said, Dr Benet and Dr James are wonderful. I have no issues with them

I’ve been going to dr Bennett for over a decade and he has been the only dr in my life to properly diagnose and treat me . He never rushes and I am a different person because of the time he has taken to help me get the right medication in the right dosage .

Dr. Benet is one of the most patient of Dr's that I have worked with. I have no doubt that he has helped me overcome Bi polar. I have tried in the past, with other therapists, but it never worked. Dr. Benet is sharp, understanding and willing to work with you.

In 2009, I came to Benet and he took me off Paxil with no precaution. I have been on this drug since I was 16 and I've been trying to get off this drug for a while so he obliged but he didn't use any psychiatric knowledge of his own to do this safely. I ended up at the institute of living for three days and then went to an outpatient program there which was expensive and took up a lot of my time: five hours a day and at least three times a week. It was my last year in college. I am now 29 and still on the drug but doing it safer this time. Paxil is addicting and Benet did not take this into account. Do NOT trust this doctor.

Since going to this office for 2 years, my life is significantly worse than I ever imagined it could get. I feel as if the office staff has tortured me mentally, emotionally, and financially. He prescribed me medications and will not refill them, leaving me to go through WITHDRAWAL on CHRISTMAS. My experience with Dr. Peter Benet and his office has caused me to MISS AN ABSURD AMOUNT OF WORK and I have become extremely physically sick, multiple times. I feel like I have been in bondange, manipulated, and at the mercy of this doctor and his secretary who see my suffering and do not care. He tries to maximize his profit by only writing prescriptions for 1 or 2 weeks at a time so I had to visit 24-36 times this past year. Meanwhile, the first year he allowed me to come once a month. I've been robbed of thousands of dollars.

Dr. Benet cares about $$ and little else. He makes a ton of $$ off of ex-heroin and opiate users. If you don't pay your bill, you don't get your prescription. It's as simple as that~~ no money... no care. He just shuts you off. What a heartless son-of-a-gun! Unfortunately, doctors are required to have a special certification to dispense Suboxone, so our choices are drastically limited. If you are financially compromised, just forget about it! You are not welcome. It costs $400 each time you need a refill. Sad that my recovery is based on my means.

After seeing a myriad of doctors who prescribed me large cocktails of medications to no effect it was Dr. Benet who finally listened and pared down my medication to a manageable and therapeutic course. His office staff is professional and I've had no issues when they need to contact the pharmacy for refills or any other issues.

I had no knowledge of Dr. Benet's legal problems when I went to see him, and it's incredibly difficult to, as one reviewer put it, reconcile my impression of him with these reports. He listened carefully, didn't interrupt (I find many psychiatrists do), and we discussed each medication thoroughly. When he suggested a medication and I declined it, having had side effects before, he didn't argue and he thoughtfully chose an alternative. I don't have insurance so he gave me generic whenever he could, and above all he treated me with respect and I didn't feel concerned about my dignity when I cried in front of him; he assured me I wasn't the first to do so and encouraged me to delve into those issues with him- he scheduled an appointment for talk therapy, and gave me samples for meds I asked for (I had been on Cymbalta before and felt it would help me more than the Wellbutrin my previous doc prescribed). He definitely did not come off as a pill pusher, and I am deeply saddened to learn the… doctor I told my fianc was "finally the right doctor" is embroiled in such a legal mess.
