Once I refused to continue working for him because he allowed, even encouraged staff to “set up” other staff at a Day Treatment center. He screamed “You’re an ABORTION!” at me twice as I walked out the door. Nasty fellow. The kind you look at, see what the are, and walk away from. I went on to have a fantastic professional career.

Hum. Just found this site and what a wonderful remark. Well, I walked into his office a tired,sick and broken human being. Life, love and hope were for others and only in at best a B rated movie. After a lot of patience, time and painful understanding I walked out of his office a whole person. What more could I want or ask for. Dr. Greenberg is on my top ten list of best people i've had the pleasure of knowing. Sorry to those who didn't have the same experinece as me. Some of the reviews here are crazy and bear no resemblance to Dr. Greenberg. He's thoughtful, kind, and compassionate. He talks about his past, but never in an inappropriate fashion. He has never been anything but professional. He helped my husband recover from treatment at the hands of a terrible Freudian psychologist who nearly wrecked our marriage. My husband has tremendous anxiety about therapists and is completely comfortable with him. My only complaint is that he doesn't take my current insurance.

Can I give negative stars?AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!Now I see why, after spending days calling psychiatrists in SF, Dr. Peter Greenberg was the only one with no waiting list. Where to start? First of all, he is running a racket. He will only see you if you agree to see him for therapy AND psychiatry. He insists you come weekly for a minimum of six months to his dusty, dingy office where he takes a completely outdated Freudian approach. He provides no structure, guidelines, or even advice in therapy. He will let you ramble on and on and you get the sense that he is not really listening. A few times I noticed him looking away and day dreaming as I was talking to him. He will try to schedule you out six months or more and he has a 7-day cancellation policy meaning you WILL be charged if you cancel less than a week ahead of time. Once he asked me if I would like to come twice a week since he had new openings in his schedule, being careful to point out that he is "not trying to take advantage" of… me. He is completely inappropriate to the point of feeling like a predator. In one session, he told me all about how he cannot get a massage without being sexually aroused and he never knows exactly how to ask for "extras" from his massage therapist at the Beverly Hills Hotel but he would like to. He talks about his sexuality and his marriage openly. He bragged about his 1950's home in Palm Springs, and how Harvey Milk was a personal friend of his. I saw him three times. I should NEVER know these things about my doctor, let alone one I have known for exactly 3 hours."I only say these things to you. I don't say these things to my other patients," he said to me. He also kept referring to his "other" patients as friends. Creepy, at best... He filed a claim with my insurance that almost got him paid twice, once by me and once by the insurance company. I am in contact with them now about it but things move slow in the world of insurance so we will see. If you are desperate for meds, he might be a good choice since he has openings and he is more than happy to dish out the pharmies. He got my prescription wrong once and I was sick for days so check to RX paper before you leave his filthy office. For this mistake, he blamed the pharmacy, so when I picked up I asked my pharmacist to check this. The pharmacist showed me the incorrect RX, written in black and white, by Dr. Peter Greenberg. He is arrogant, cocky, sleazy, and it is a shame that he has the credentials to be called a healer. My new psychiatrist is encouraging me to file a claim with the medical board after I told her what went on with this guy.In short, he is ONLY good if you need meds while you look for someone else, and know exactly which meds at what dose you need. Get the prescription and do not schedule another appt. with him since you can hardly cancel. Tell him you agree to his terms and you will call to schedule again. Or, better yet, go to the ER.

The layout of Dr. Greenberg's office is such that it makes the patient feel locked in. The seating makes one feel captive, not safe. He has a fierce temper that is frightening. I was on a cafeteria plan at work to pay for his treatment. When I asked if I could pay him on the 30th of each month, because of the delay in getting reimbursed, he agreed. Then when it came to honoring that he reneged and completely lost his temper with me. I was so nonplussed I could barely speak to him. I had lost complete trust in him. Additionally, he is arrogant, haughty, and places an inordinate amount of value on expensive luxuries. He expressed to me that he specialized in treating Holocaust survivors, then he would ridicule the Jews who remained in Germany and Poland during the war as stupid trusting morons, oblivious to their surroundings. I found this very unsympathetic. He also shared some personal experiences with me that indicated he is an unforgiving, vindictive man.

I have seen psychiatrists since 1962 off and on, but this Dr. Greenberg is the worst I have seen.
