Dr. Peter C Maki has the following 3 specialties
- Internal Medicine
An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.
In addition to treating the common cold and flu, internists also treat chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.
- Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiologists are doctors who specialize in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of conditions related to the heart and blood vessels.
A patient may be referred to a cardiologist if he experiences symptoms like chest pains, shortness of breath, dizziness, or high blood pressure. The physician will then evaluate your symptoms, take your health and family history and your weight. The cardiologist may order additional diagnostic tests, such as an echocardiogram, X-ray or blood tests. If necessary, the cardiologist may also call for a cardiac catheterization - a procedure in which a small tube is inserted into or near the heart that can take pictures of the heart's activity, or relieve blockage.
Once determining whether there is a heart condition, a cardiologist will treat a patient through cholesterol management, cardiac rehabilitation, and fitness. If surgical intervention is required, like open-heart surgery, a cardiologist will make that determination, but a cardiothoracic surgeon will perform the procedure.

I would not have believed this if I hadn't experienced it myself! I know Drs are stressed these days but so many offices are now seeing way too many more patients than they can be present for and compassionate with. Two weeks ago, I made an appointment to see Dr Maki in this office. He is an excellent Dr whom I greatly admire. My blood pressure had been erratically bouncing up over 170/85 and as I walked in the office, I felt another episode beginning. I had waited to weeks for my appointment and I had been to the hospital three times in the last two weeks and was experiencing these scary episodes daily. However every time, the fire dept came or I went to the hospital, my medicine had begun to work and when they could finally examine me, my heart rate and pressure were back to normal even though I was wiped out. They could find nothing wrong with my heart and no signs of a stroke. So this day, I immediately asked if someone could take my blood pressure to make I was not at risk. I was told no one was available. Then the kind receptionist informed me that they did not show that I had an appointment. Upon further investigation, she was able to see when I had called in and she told the back office staff that I did indeed have an appointment. There response was that there was no way they could fit me in and they would call me to reschedule. They didn't ask if someone was driving me, They didnât ask if I needed to sit a minute or if there was ANYTHING they could do to assist. I was blown away. It's so sad when really good doctors take so many patients they can't really care for them with compassion and safety, But, Isnât it their job to decide when enough is enough? When they called to reschedule told them I wasn't interested in going back. I couldn't imagine what would happen in a bigger emergency if 170 over 85 wasn't enough. Pretty sad
