Specialties

Dr. Philip Maurice has the following 3 specialties

  • Neurology

A neurologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats disorders of the nervous system which is comprised of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. These doctors do not perform surgery, but refer patients to neurological surgeons when they determine that surgical intervention is necessary.
Some of the conditions that neurologists diagnose and treat are epilepsy, aneurysms, hydrocephalus, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal disc herniation, and spinal disease.
In addition to using diagnostic tests like MRI, CT scans, EEG and EMG, neurologists also employ neurological testing to gauge muscle strength and movement, balance, reflexes, sensation, memory, speech, and other cognitive abilities.

  • Psychiatry

A psychiatrist is a doctor with specific training in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.
He or she can not only provide the counseling necessary to both diagnose and treat a patient, but can also prescribe medication when needed. In some cases, a psychiatrist will only provide the medication and the counseling will be provided by another healthcare specialist, like a certified counselor or psychologist.
Like other doctors, psychiatrists employ diagnostic tools like CT scans and MRI in order to observe the structure and function of a patient's brain.
Once a diagnosis is made, these specialists may use behavior or cognitive therapy in order to address the patient's condition, or a multitude of other types of therapy, in conjunction with or in place of medication.

  • Internal Medicine

An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.
In addition to treating the common cold and flu, internists also treat chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

Brilliant

This doctor is brilliant - atypical doctor knows his stuff and more and is always ready and able to find the root of the medical problem. after my mother had been seen by several specialists he diagnosed the problem. I have been seeing Dr. Maurice for over 12 years and it's always been a positive experience. He takes the time necessary with you, so if I have to wait 20 minutes that's fine, he's doing the same for the patient before me. Wouldn't trust any doctor as I do Dr. Maurice.

Felt used and abused

Mu first appointment went great, I thought I finally found a caring doctor. Starting from the next appointment when I waited an hour and a half just to be called back to a room, then waited another 1/2 hour to be seen, I thought I would get some kind of apology for the wait. I realize I'm not a doctor so I must have ample time in my schedule to sit and do nothing but listen to NPR radio with a do not touch sign on it. Then when he's completed his meaningless task of asking questions and writing everything in long hand, he walks me or any other patient out to make another appointment and stands there and talks about nothing really, using foul language like he's at a bar somewhere and leaving 2 in the waiting room and one in a patient room waiting to see him. He's a classless boob that thinks his degree gives him permission to abuse his patients.

Five Stars

I have been seeing him off and on for over 20 years. I trust him and know I will get answers and a name to my health problems. I have gone to him after many other specialty docs have thrown up their hands and said they didn't know what the problem was. This is why I keep coming back. I know him from my days at working at the hospital. He has a great reputation with the staff as being knowledgeable. He is an odd character, but a great doc. He can be abrasive, so know that going in. Not your run of the mill doc. He will sit with you and take extensive notes. I trust him with my life. Sometimes a long wait.

Grumpy and not open for discussion.

Long wait times, grumpy behavior by doc. Doesn't want patient input, his way or highway.
