Dr. Priya Kathpalia, MD

Doctor was thorough with information on my test results, treatment plans & follow-up. She listened to my concerns & answered my questions. I think she had read my goals for our visit. I really appreciated that!

I waited a long time to see a university doctor for my complicated issues but was deeply disappointed. She did not spend much time reviewing my history and just kind of dismissed me without helping. Her associate Dr McLean took a detailed history of my concerns and was really excellent and thorough. Then she comes online and acts like she didn’t read anything Dr. McLean said. Why take a detailed history without reading it? Was only interested in managing symptoms and not finding root cause of my problem. No suggestions for seeing other specialists either. If the university doctors can’t or won’t help where do I go next? I felt full of dispair after she dismissed me because she had another patient. Very poor bedside manner.

She's cold and has no interest in getting to the underlying problem. Can't be bothered for follow up appt or a phone call after a procedure even though I was in pain. I was told by someone on her staff (after calling all day while in pain) - to take a medicine for 8 weeks and go to ER if needed. It's almost impossible to get through to UCSF GI and you're a number to her, so the "care" is mediocre at best.

Dr K was great. She listened carefully to me and took the time to understand my concerns. I appreciated her sitting next to me during the encounter and explaining everything in laymen terms. She is one of the best gastroenterologists I have encountered.

She was unable to treat me and she had very poor bedside manners.

Dr K is a gem. She helped diagnose my achalasia that had been causing me symptoms for years. She explains everything in great detail and in a way that I can actually understand.

Great bedside manner and thoroughly explained my condition after diagnosing my swallowing disorder!

This doctor gives orders, and refuses to discuss very legitimate concerns about side effects of medications. She insists she is right, no matter what, and refused to prescribe another version of a medication I needed when I was having an allergic reaction to one of the secondary ingredients in that med. I think UCSF needs to work with her on understanding how to work with patients. I strongly recommend against seeing her.
